BX Back Hoe, Bucket Reversal

Any body try to reverse the bucket on the BX BH so you dig pushing away from the tractor instead of pulling toward the tractor? Looks like you could but thought I would get opinion from another experimenter before. I need to square up the vertical walls of a pit. Hand digging sucks at my age.

I don’t see how this is going to help but if the pins are the same size it should work.

you can square up the walls of a pit without going into a weird modification. use it as it is.. I've seen it done before..

Roll the bucket all the way back and move the machine so the boom is about 3/4 of the way extended and dig away. I don’t see how having the bucket on backwards would help.

You can, but you're loosing breakout forces. With the bucket reversed, your stick cylinder retracts to push the bucket forward. To curl the bucket up, the cylinder retracts.
On any hydraulic cylinder, the retracting motion is less powerful than the extending motion.

Thanks, had not thought of that. In this case the difference may not be important. Soil is sandy/rocky and mostly loose. If I try I will post my results.

I've reversed a bucket to dig under a sidewalk. It works but it is weak and also confusing since the normal bucket control is backwards. Have to be careful. I agree with others the normal setup will get you a straight side down on the other side of the ditch, no need to change the bucket for that purpose.
