I bought a 2005 BX 2200 and am waiting for it to be delivered. I have a manual coming from the dealer. A quick question.... I don't recall there being a tachometer. I recall the hour meter and a fuel meter, but don't recall the tachometer. Is there one on these and if not, can one be added? Pretty essential to be able to tell RPMs.

My first tractor was a BX2200 but I don't remember if it had a tach. It really isn't that big of a deal if they do or don't have a tach. Some I've had have/had one and some haven't and it hasn't made much difference. I've mostly went by sound and feel or when all else fails then I've revved them all the way then backed back just a bit. As you use it with the various implements you'll get the feel and know how high or low to run it. A bunch of advocates here say "It's a diesel, run it wide open at all times" but I still can't bring myself to do that unless I'm into a job that is probably to big for the tractor that I'm using at the time. (Trying to pick up a rock that's to big for my FEL to handle).:)

What John said, ours didn't have a tach, my son in law has it now. We mowed with it wide open or just a bit less and other chores by "feel", not close to full throttle, but enough for good power and hydraulic response.

We have a BX2660 with a tach, but don't really pay much attention to it. I can barely read it without my glasses anyway.

If you are not use to these things, it will initially seem you are running it too fast.

I could be wrong but I believe that having ot not a tachometer has a direct impact on what type of hourmeter you have.
Some hourmeter, like on my Grand L2900 with a tach, are rpm's rather than time based.
meaning 1 hour is 1 hour at PTO (2500rpms) and 1/2 hour at 1/2 PTO speed

My 2001 BX2200 does not have a tach. When using the PTO, (mower(s), chipper, rototiller) it is run wide open.

I have seen posts on TBN where guys have added a tach so doing a search may bring up something.

Several of our older tractors haven't had working tachs in years.

Well, it will likely be a sound thing then. I've never liked running my stuff wide open. Just kind of makes me cringe in the seat. My John Deere 316 which has no tach, I always ran at 2/3rds throttle unless I heard it bogging down, then I'd up it to nearly full. I gotta tell you guys I can't wait to get it and drive it around! My John Deere 990 is geared and I'm gonna love that hydrostat. Even the 316 has the hydro on the dash, and it always was a pain in the butt. I need to pull the 316 out of the shop as soon as the BX shows up.

I agree that a WOT is not ideal for most tractors.

However, when you get your BX you will find that it runs very smoothly wide open and doesn't sound at all like it is screaming or over-revving.

Let us know how it goes.

Well, I just meant that unless I'm pushing it, I keep the RPMs reasonable. I do recall that at idle, that 3 cylinder did shake the **** out of the machine, but as you opened it up, it got smoother and smoother. My 990 with the 4 cylinder is just the opposit it seems. I will be talking more about it when it gets here, and will put up pictures too. ;)

Tiny Tach is what you need if you really must have one. I don't have one, but I have not missed it. I can use Hz from my multi-meter if I am using the PTO generator, and I have an optical tach to check things like RPM when needed.

Enjoy your BX2200. I sure have enjoyed mine.

I put a Tiny Tach on 10 years ago, it still works. BUT I never look at it, run the tractor wide open for mowing, running the chipper, snow blower, tiller, spreader. I run the FEL work at 3/4 open or so. Believe me you will hear what you need as far RPM goes. Diesel engines love to work at WOT.

I have a 2003 04 2004 BX2200 and it doesn't have a tach. Like others said, mow with it at full throttle.
