BX 2200 Axle Problem?

The tractor was 2 years old on 3/7 has about 175 hours. When I turn the steering wheel I have a rough spot or resistance when turning the wheel left or right. Much worse without moving but still has a resistance when moving. I recall someone talking about a problem with rusty axles and a recall but not sure how they determined the problem and what symptoms they had. Can anyone help?

Tom; I don't know anything about the rusted axles, but a number of tractors of your vintage had bad steering cylinders. I believe most of them had some steering failure, I can't remember whether any one had sticky spots as you describe.

Tom,

I had a bad steering cylinder (that I replaced myself). The symptoms were quite different from yours: you could slowly turn the steering wheel and the tractor would continue in whatever direction it was pointed in. You had to crank on the steering to convince it to turn. There was no undue resistance on the wheel from this.

Talked to my dealer, he has the parts on order and he will send a mechanic to my house to replace the unit. Great service considering he is a 2 hours away. I noticed today if I turn the wheel left or right all the way, the wheels stop turning, but the steering wheel continues to turn. I assume this is not normal?? Hope the parts come in soon, seems to be getting worse. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
