Hey got a newbie question? I was reading in the forms the other day about skid plates on BX series HST. It was important to have them. What do you think and if yes where do I buy them.

If you leave your MMM on all the time you probably don't need one. If you are always just on yards you don't need one. As you've been told in other post they are important if your MM Mowerless and in brushy stuff.

My MMM is off most of the time, so I made one per Milkman's design.

There is a thread somewhere..but I had trouble finding it this morning.

This is available, but our tractors are not mentioned...first time I noticed that..as I always considered it an alternative.

Before I built the guard, I used the MMM as a guard. I have the big belly mower, so the protection was good, and traction was also improved, but side clearance was an issue trying to get close to things...

I bought mine at BXpanded for my BX2660 because the MMM is off a lot but never off on my BX2200 so don't need one on it

After reading all of the horror stories, I wouldn't be without one unless I had the mower underneath. I use a rear mount finish mower so I don't even mow without one because we have a lot of trees and just running over a stick the wrong way can get that plastic fan.
Two good manufactured ones look to be by BXpanded.com and Bro-Tek.com. I'm sure there are others but these 2 come to mind.
Attached is a picture of mine that I made out of 3/4 inch plywood, bed frame angle iron, and a couple of hooks. It does a good job for us and we do a lot of work in the woods.

That's a nice stunt to teach your tractor to roll over and play dead like that...

Bro-tek maks some good stuff and also puts in all the hardware needed for their applications. They test it all and user feedback is quite good. I have purchased quite a bit for my BX32 and also noted they pay particular attention to bolting grades as well with much of their stuff, that was enough for me to check them out...and I am glad I did.
I also think their price is better than many of their competitors, making it the first place I look for protection and add ons.

I also have their thumb attachment and noticed it was case hardened by welding stringers on the contact portion of the foot.. those little details speak for themselves.

I believe Harry only covers the newer BX's, not the 00's and 30's. Unless that has changed recently?

Yea, I mentioned that "our tractors are not mentioned" but I probably should have left the link out entirely.

The thing I like about Bro-Tek is that there are two separate plates to cover the entire underbelly, where as the BXpanded is one plate.

I very rarely have my MMM off, but I still wanted extra protection for the fan. I am sometimes running around in un-mowed meadow with tall grass and weeds. I know the MMM offers protection, but I can imagine with some forward and backing actions some stiff weed stems are still able to come up behind the MMM and into the fan.

With the Bro-Tek version, you can leave the back skid mount in place with the MMM installed. Kind of a "belt and suspenders" level of protection. :)
