Howdy. I have been dreaming of a BX 1500 and will be pulling the trigger soon. I just got an email from one dealer saying that they do not stock a 54" MMM because the 1500 does not have enough power...which is far from what another dealer has told me. Any problems out there with 54" decks?

Also, I will be snowblowing about 200' of hilly, but paved, driveway...and they both claim that the 1500 will be fine for that. If I need to bump up to a 2230 I will, but only if I need to. Any input you guys have would be great. Thanks.

I like the 1500 and the BX series in general. It has plenty of power but I think he's tying to move his stock more than anything. Dealers like that make me worried. You might want to go with the other dealer who told you different.

Also, should I expect any marked differences on hills depending on what model I get? I have some very steep inclines (previous owner had a 2230). I understand that the 2230 is a little longer and wider (though not much) and has 7 more horses, but I am not convinced that that will matter a whole lot. This is my tractor for life, so I need to make a smart move. Thanks for your help.

I just got off the phone with A dealer in Athens,Oh.
He has the BX1500 with a 48'' mower for $7299.
Sounds like a pretty good deal as my local dealer was pricing the same tractor and mower for $7750 a couple of weeks ago.

The Athens dealer also has the BX1800 for $7490 without a mower.
You can get 0% financing with nothing down on them also.

If it is the tractor for life, then I would go with the larger engine/tractor. I have never heard of anyone that ever complained that there BX had too much power, but a few here have traded up to larger machines after owning the smaller one. I would go with the largest BX tractor that you budget will afford. Remember that the sweetness of the small price might leave a bitter taste later on if it doesn't meet up to your expectations. I have a BX22 with the front mounted snowblower. It uses all the horsepower it has while blowing snow. For cutting grass, you don't need much HP, but snow is completely different. If you lived in the South, then the BX1500 would be a better choice because snow removal wouldn't be a consideration. There seem to be a lot of trades available, so consider purchasing a used BX also. More tractor for less money. Everyone drives a used tractor after the first day... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can't speak for the BX series... but I have a B series with 16hp. I run a 48" brushhog and have no trouble cutting down 2-3 foot tall grass/brush without bogging the engine. I normally run full speed in low range. I would imagine that a 15hp with a 54" MMM would be fine as long as it isn't cutting down stuff it never was intended too!

This is my tractor for life...........

Tony I felt that way with my BX2230....which I still love. However, I am getting the long term vision when I get older of getting bigger to handle things I might not be able to. So I'm thinking when the time comes of something like a B3030.

If you want a life tractor get the 2230 for powers sake and get the 60" MMM. If economics don't allow that get the 1500 and you'll still be real happy.

The 1830 is also a good choice in the middle of the price of the two recommended units....

I have a BX1500, FEL, with a 54 inch MMM and am very satisfied. I have a couple fairly large hills to deal with and never a problem on power. The same for using the FEL for snow removal. We all like more power, but that is not always the best choice when matching the tool to the task at hand.

Thanks to everyone! Junkman has me a little worried when he says that he uses all his hp when snowblowing...is anyone out there blowing snow with a BX 1500?? Got enough juice? I was planning on the 50" Kubota 2750 front mounted snowblower, not a rear mounted one. Thanks.

Kubota says it's compatable with all their BX series tractors. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Go to their web site and check it out

I am in Michigan and have the blower on a BX1500, it needs all the horsepower !! I assume I have to go slower than the junkman. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It does a very good job. Here snowblowing takes about 10 hours and mowing about 60 so I bought for my primary use.
