Buying used vs new help......

I am currently in the market for a new or used tractor. I have the option of a new Kioti ck35 without the tier 4 compliance or a JD 3120 with 500 hours. The new kioti is 20800 and the JD is 14500. I have had a JD in the past and know how they are built and regret selling it. I have been looking at the Kioti ck35 and it meets my needs. The problem I am having deciding is the warranty... Would you go new for the 4 yr warranty or take the used for $6200 less and no warranty? All comments and input are greatly appreciated. By the way the JD is 8 yrs old.... Thanks in advance!!

:welcome: To TBN. No experience with either machine, but $6200 is a lot of dough to me and goes a long way toward repairs if needed on the JD. How do the tires look? Tires are high as _ell.

The new Kioti is outdoors and the used JD is kept in a garage. The tires look hardly worn on the JD but there is a 6 hp difference between the two, JD being less. I mis read the numbers earlier and didn't realize I was comparing two tractors of different HP.. All be it is only 6 hp difference. JD is a 29 hp... Kioti is a 35 hp... Going to be doing a lot of reseeding, small FEL work, maybe eventually a Harley rake.

I'd rather have the machine that's 8 years newer, has a warranty, doesn't already have 500 hours on it, and has more power.

I went new because the interest rates buying used would be the same as the monthly payment of a new one. Also, the dealer's service has lots to do with it for me. Buying used, is this from an individual or a dealer?
Also, lots of things can happen to good tractors in the first 4 years that a warranty can cover. First oil change I found a bolt sticking to the magnetic plug. I documented it and made my dealer put in writing that I discovered it during the warranty. As it turned out.............nothing bad has come of it. But it could have. You never know until you commit. Then again, $6200 can buy a lot of after market warranty for 4 years.

That's right, Brandi. My kids are always declining store or dealer warranties and finding better ones on line. I just am too old fashioned to figure out how they do it. From some of the comments here, I wouldn't be too excited about new machine warranties anyhow. Add in the extra hassle of that tier 4 stuff and well.... As far as financing, I'm assuming the OP has cash for the machine. If not, that is something else to consider. If the Deere is clean and handles well, I'd do that, but try to haggle a little first.

I think they are called extended warranties. I get infor all the time to extend the warranty on my
Ram 3500 dually. I bought it used with no warranty.

I've bought both new and used. Felt better with new and a factory warranty. One of my kids bought a warranty and discovered it wasn't worth very much because of exclusions and deductibles.

I also do things a little differently with financing. I don't. The first two tractors were used, and fairly cheap. What would have been payment money on an expensive tractor went into the bank. When it came time to go tractor shopping, the new tractor was paid for when it was picked up. It is a matter of discipline and patience, not wealth, to be able to go for cash deals like that. If there are $X available each month to pay for a tractor after delivery, there are $X available to set aside before buying.

That's great for folks who can do that, but it doesn't help the folks who need the tractor now and can't risk an older machine that might be unreliable.
