Tractor
none at this time
This will be my first tractor. I own 23 acres, about 7 will be mowed (somewhat hilly terrain), and a 1500 ft driveway (uphill) to maintain. I will also be doing common homeowner things like tree clearing and maybe plowing a garden. I will be using a box blade on the driveway. I really like the kubota B2650. I am just scared I will be dissatisfied with the power. I also considered a JD 2032R. I would hands down buy the B3350 if it weren't for the emissions issue. I think the B series Kubota have the best features. I also would like to run a 5' Brush hog.
I just want your guys opinion if this is the best tractor for me. The dealer promises I won't be dissatisfied with the power, but he's a dealer. I know that the HP rating is on the low side of what is probably realistic. I would like to hear from you guys that own one. Also, how user friendly it is (like taking off FEL and mmm). What is a reasonable price on this unit with a MMM and FEL. Again, I just don't want run out of power, I plan on keeping this tractor for a long time. And if you guys think this is an OK size for me.

Thx very much, looking forward to your advice.

Jeremy

Tractor weight is as important as tractor horsepower.

Tire choice between R1/ag tires and R4/industrial tires can make a significant difference in some parts of Ohio.

I think you should consider the relatively new Kubota L2501.

Consider a LPGS (Land Plane/Grading Scraper) in lieu of a Box Blade.

A tractor with 14-hp and 4-WD can satisfactorily pull a 12" single bottom plow.

FEL goes on/off easily, but few take them off. I have my second Kubota tractor-loader and I have only taken off the FEL once, just to know I could do so. After a few hours you cease to notice the FEL is out there.

If you will mow seven acres purchase a rotary cutter (Bush Hog) not a MMM.

I now have a Tier IV Kubota L3560. Honestly, at 500 hours, no big deal. Every 60 engine hours you have to regen for 16 minutes.

You should also consider a Ventrac, made in Ohio: Ventrac Compact Tractors & Attachments

I like the L series, but want a MMM, I have a lot of trees and stuff. Ive used a box blade, but never a land plane... I will look into that. I figured Id use industrial, but I'm somewhat inexperienced.

You THINK you want a MMM! Lol. You don't. Someone else can tell you why.

More traction in dirt with R1/ag tires. Wear rapidly on concrete or asphalt. Vibrate on concrete or asphalt.

R4/industrials are wider, support FEL bucket loads better. Almost impossible to puncture. Good on concrete and asphalt. Traction still good in 4-WD. Do not mark turf in 2-WD.

Probably 90% of Kubota B's are sold with R4/industrial tires.

I wouldn't say R1s have considerable more tractor. They do have a little more traction and several downfalls to go with that traction. I'd highly recommend skipping the MMM and buying a quality finish mower instead.

I had a B2920 that was smaller/lighter than the 2650 but with 29HP. It was a hot rod, but would run out of traction in many circumstances. The B2650 is heavier and less power, and I'd wager it will be a better combination to get actual work done.

Unless you have plans to run stuff on the PTO that takes more power, it will probably be fine.

Supposedly the kinks have been worked out of the B3350. Maybe look into it and see what you think.

Come on.. whats the prob with the mmm?
The firs problem is the amount of $$$ it takes to get one. The second problem is they need to be removed for virtually any other work and that is a PITA. A finish mower can usually be lifted up out of the way and is much easier to remove when the need arises. The finish mower can fit all tractors with a cat 1 hitch. The MMM only fits a couple of machines. The MMM is better at mowing around obstacles, but the finish mower is better at mowing under trees with low hanging branches. Most MMM decks are side discharge. A rear discharge finish mower is vastly superior. Another plus for the finish mower is when you get tired of mowing with a tractor and buy a ZTR the finish mower will have a better resale value. My finish mower leave a better cut quality than the MMM, but that will depend on the MMM and finish mower in comparison.
