Rake Buying a Rake

It is still a fine deal. You would not be able to replace that set up even with an off brand for less than $600-650 new. I paid about $600 for a used five foot Bush Hog rake with gauge wheels this summer.

Well, now that you ask, I, ahem, have perhaps been spending waay too much time lately on a drag blade for my snowblower. I posted the prototype here a few weeks ago, but since then there has been no snow and I've been going just slightly nuts making improvements.

Now the drag blade has four arms, a hydraulic linkage for raising and lowering it, and while I was at it, another cylinder linkage for turning the chute. All this running from a 2-spool valve with one float spool so the drag blade can follow the ground as it pleases back there without trying to lift the blower. And I've added all the power beyond plumbing needed to allow any and all combinations of loader, 3ph, blower, backhoe, etc.

Bet you're wishing you hadn't brought up what I'd do with a few bucks. I'm glad we can talk about our dark little secrets here on TBN in relative obscurity.

Matt - I have a 7' rake with wheels (Camco brand) that I never use - very similar to this one (almost as shiny) - tires are pneumatic - 3" wide. Sent you an email. $300 loaded into your pickup.

I have a 6' KK rake and it has been a good one. I maintain my 500' limestone drive and many other things. I've used it for site prep prior to seeding and even rake up leaves in the 'holler. I don't have any wheels but have developed a knack for smoothing things out. It took a while to develope the "feel" for it, I'm sure the wheels would be very handy.

Rakes are not cheap and do you need the leveling wheels may depend upon what you are going to use the rake for. I have a five foot Leinbach that was real cheap, sure there is a reason they are cheap, and find it does a reasonable job but the ability to control the depth is not there.

We have a dirt road that is about 1000 feet long and during and after mud season I go out and rake the road. The road looks better after it is done, but there is no way I can control the rake depth. This is partly due to the control over the 3 point hitch on my tractor, but again if I had wheels on the rake I would set them and be able to repeat the depth of the rake during each pass.

As for using it to remove rocks and what have you it does a great job! What are your plans for a rake?

I have used these guys in the past with excellent results - the link has pricing and it still very good - guage wheels are additional...I dont think the pictures are accurate, I received a midwest rake with angle adjustment ability, which they dont show in pictures

I bought it from a place near Sumner. It's called Brim Tractor. It's on Valley HWY E. If you are driving towards Puyallup on 167, you'll see it on the right side of the freeway. There's a bunch of blue tractors there. I caught them just as they were closing for the evening. At first, they said they wanted $450. I started to turn to leave when the dealer asked me to hold for a sec. He made a call and got permission to let it go for $300 cash. It's a Woods. if that means anything.
