I am planing to buy a 4310 HST/Cab with a QA loader bucket. I am puzzled on the tire issue R1 R4 ? I live in MD and provide farm services for small horse farms, mowing, aerating, overseeding etc... I also use the loader for manure removal (thus the need for cab). Also I clear snow with my tractor, my curent tractor has R1 tires great in snow but hard on turf. What to do ???

Great looking tires at that site. The problem is cost! My buget is screaming just to get the tractor & loader. I am not even sure if I will get the QA loader at first. But the tire options from Kubota are all I feel my wallet can stand for now. I do know i'll love that factory cab for my uses. I cant wait!!!

Yes, but buy the 4610 with cab instead. It has a bigger hydraulic pump, stronger loader, and it will make mark turn green (er orange) with envy. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

It seems to me that it's R1 for traction, turf tires for lawns, and R4 as a compromise for all around use. R4s also seem to be tougher and more puncture resistant.

Guess they wouldn't make R1 and R4 tires if they were for the same purposes. Most Ag applications use R1 because they have better traction AND are pretty well self cleaning in mud. Most construction uses are R4 as they are better around nails and on the pavement. You couldn't give me a set of R4 tires, but you couldn't give others a set of R1 tires. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thats why I don't have them on my tractor I can't afford them right now, but I sure would like to have a set just on the rear. For me its r-1 but I run in alot of mud the r-4s just load up so its a tough call.

I did look at the 4610 but I originally was going to get the 3710 cab as it would probably suffice, but after talking to Carver I think the 4310 will more than do the trick. The only difference I can find other than $ is the front axle and the hydro pump. They rev the engine an extra 100 rpm for the pump ( I guess )

I guess I will get the R4 tires, I Know turf's wont do.

Nice tractor. I'm glad you don't have the budget for the L4610, though. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The downside of the Michelin tires is cost, I'll give you that. All the other things said here are valid, too. The R4's are probably the best compromise tire, unless you go with the Michelin's. The Michelin's are considered an R4, but they use an R1 tread, so they excel in durability, floatation, and room for ballast, as R4's are known for, but they have excellent traction, even in mud, due to the ag type tread. Add to those factors all the benefits of radials, and it's a real winner.

Otherwise, as I said, I think standard R4's are the best compromise.

Thanks to all for the info. Hopefully I will speak to carver and be headed on a trip to NC in about a week! I was real impressed when I spoke wiht them and I havent read anything here that has given me mixed thoughts. I really enjoy this site and look foward to further conversation. Mike

MikeF,

The 4610 is the only Grand L with a 4 bar link loader bucket. This is a "real" configuration like on heavy equipment and gives greater range of motion to the bucket. (and power?)

The B21 & L35 both have it, but are heavy duty and somewhat special purpose Tractor-Loader-Backhoes.

Also, remember that the L3710 is the largest L series with the mid PTO (belly mower), if that is important to you. For me the 4 bar bucket linkage would outweigh the bellymower (which I wouldn't get anyway).

Thanks for the input, I also found some more info. that was rather interesting. 4610 loader: reach @ max. height 18.5" / 4310 loader: reach @ max. height 23.4". As both loaders reach more than high enough for my dump trailer with extended sides, the extra reach for my aplication will be more helpfull.

Mike,
You may want to give Modern Tractor a call in Tennessee. Steve Bowman is the man to talk to at 800-540-1704. Just bought a 2710 from them and had it shipped. Real nice guys to deal with and at a great price.
Good luck
