Thanks, John_Mc and georgeT, for trying to help me identify this bush. It's not pokeweed. Doesn't look anything like the pictures in your link, george. On the other hand, I have seen that somewhere and I think it was on my property.

John, the purple berries have sort of a frosted surface and look like minature grapes. The bark on the bush is mostly smooth and dark purplish brown with circumferential 'splits'. Sort of reminds me of branch bark on a cherry tree. No thorns to be seen anywhere...not sure if that knocks out your buckthorn idea. There's a couple of ringnecks hanging around to pick over the stuff I knock down. They're not the least interested in these things.

Nearing the end of this job. Looks like I'll be almost 20% over my estimate /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Live and learn. I'll be smarter next time.

Sounds to me like chokecherry. Does it look any thing like the attachment? If it's chokecherry you can eat the fruit although the flesh is astringent. However the pits are poisonous!

It looks just like that, Bigdogue. There's alot of them and they don't chop up easily. If they stand higher than the stack on the tractor, I go around them. Anything shorter generally gets the full treatment. Thanks for posting the pix.

Was passing one yesterday and happened to notice it held a huge hornet's nest just as the right rear tire ripped the side out of it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. In a panic, I just grabbed the throttle and pulled it wide open. Luckily the tractor was in third, so I covered 50 yards fairly quickly. Stopped and looked back to see the irate occupants buzzing around the tree. Luckily I didn't get stung. Maybe the smokescreen that belched out the stack when the throttle went wide open had something to do with that.

A cab would be nice someday.

I wondered when that obstacle would be brought up. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
