Simple. You Dealer was trying to up-sell you on a tractor that cost ~$10k more:confused2:

But I assume when he says "will not handle" That he means the shear weight. And going up/down hills, and making turns.

If you get a BH that is TOO heavy, the tail like to wag the dog.

That said, your dealer is absolutly wrong. That L3800 will handle a 5' med-duty cutter ALL day long. The last thing you want to buy is a light duty cutter.

I have a L3400 (same tractor, little less HP) And I run a 6' BH that weighs over 1000lbs. Heavy duty. But the FEL MUST stay on. But it handles it just mine:thumbsup:

Well that makes two of us that can't understand what the dealer is saying. With 30 PTO hp I would be temped to run a 6' mower. The general rule of thumb is 5 PTO hp per foot of mower. And if the L3800 can't run a 5' mower why would less than 3 hp increase on the L3940 let you jump to a 6' mower. Me thinks someone would like the bigger commission from the more expensive tractor.

You dealer is blowing smoke up your arse. Dont buy into it. He is just trying to come up with a reason for you to move up, spend more $$$ and put more $$$ in his pocket.

For starters, he is saying a 5' medium duty will bog it down but a 5' light duty would be ok:confused2: 5 foot is 5 foot. It takes the same power to operate. The med-duty will just hold up better when you get into things like saplings and an occasional boulder.

And saying that the 3940 will handle a 6' med duty better than the 3800 will handle a 5' med duty is obsurd. Look at the #'s. The 3800 w/5' is going to give you 6.06HP per ft of cutter. The 3940 w/6' will only give you 5.5hp/ft. If anything, the 3940 will bog down more:confused2:

You should fire your salesman and find a new one. If I were you I'd walk straight back into that dealer, approach a DIFFERENT salesman, and as him...

"I want to buy a L3800. Are you going to sell it to me or are you going to try to push me into a L3940 with a load of BS like (insert last guys name here)"

Thanks again LD1 I am going to a different dealer Monday. I just wasnt sure about the bushhog. I got a 5ft tiller on my 7800 and it walks with it so the dealer had me a little confused. Again thanks to all for the replies it helped me a bunch.

I have a B2920, and run 5' er,,,it's a bit of weight off the back, but I can cut 1'-1"+ stuff no problems, I always have the loader on , and have brackets to add 200 lbs of lead weights to the bucket if needed, oh yeah, all 4 tires are loaded also

Well went to another dealer today and they said it would have no problem with med duty 5ft bushhog. So looks like I will have new rig in shop as soon as they get one in. Has anybody had any major issues with the L3800? I wasnt to fond of the pto lever mounted on side with cable attached to it, dealer said that kubota had really cut down on the features so as to keep price down.

I have a b7800 with FEL and a 5' bush hog. It is no problem; however when I put that bush hog on the L2800, the 2800 is a much smoother ride.
