Burnt on Carbon BBQ grill

Our stove top and oven are clean eventhough we haven't used oven cleaner since we bought it 7 years ago. What kind of magic cleaner have I discovered ? Dish soap, water and 3M Scotch-Brite pads. I figure you are thinking :liar: but try it if you despise oven cleaner, burning nose and watery eyes as much as I do. Place multiple layers of paper towel on oven floor or smooth top range and saturate with soapy water. It take's overnight or longer, depending on what and how long stuff has been on there. Keep a spray bottle with plain water handy to keep towels saturated. Covering wet towels with plastic food wrap will also help prevent them drying out.
Of course racks and drip pans can be soaked in a container of soapy water. Anyone care to try it and report back?

This product:https://www.samsclub.com/p/oven-fryer-grill-cln-3-x-32-ounce/prod9260461, will remove burned on black carbon.

It is also available at Gordon Food service. There's has a different label, look for the same packaging.

This is the only thing that I have found to clean my stoves gray burner grates. And, I have cleaned my Grills and fries like new, using it.

It can sometimes discolor stainless, and aluminum. And, it can require soaking for periods of time, as well as the use of scrubbing pads, to help expedite the process.

Wear gloves, and work in a well ventilated area.

I use a pumice stone. As you clean, the pumice stone forms grooves that allow it to go between the bars. They break down, so you need a small supply of them. They slightly scratch or polish the stainless, depending on how you look at it. There is always some dark stuff where the bars meet but not too bad. Anything tomato or sugar on the meat really makes for cleanup. Sous Vide with just searing makes for less cleanup.

I use a metal scraper. After removing the meat I turn up the heat and let it burn everything to a crisp then hit it with the scraper. I stopped using a wire brush of any kind years ago. They just never seemed to do a very good job.

>>>>>If you use a stainless steel or brass wire brush to remove stuck-on food from grill grates, be aware of this surprising downside: Small, sharp bristles can break off as you’re cleaning and get stuck to your grill’s cooking surface. The next time you grill, the stray bristles can adhere to food and be accidentally ingested.

>>>>An estimated 1,700 Americans went to an emergency room between 2002 and 2014 after having ingested wire bristles in grilled food, according to a study published in 2016 in the journal Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. One in four of those with grill brush injuries had to be admitted to the hospital.

For stainless steel grates, stainless steel brush (Lowes paint dept) and stainless steel wool (walmart), dish soap in sink with those and I think you'll be surprised at results.

OK I had a plumber connect the grill, I was a bit too scared to mess with the gas line after a house blew up here in CA. Good thing I did he fould three leaks at the meter from the gas company side and from the house side.
He fixed the house side and The gas company is on high alert and came out within the hour to fix their side.
We has some quakes lately so that's what I can assume did all the leaks.
Man theis grill just saved mylife, I would have never checked for gas leaks - I didn't even smell the leaks as I walk by the meter every trash day.
Best $175.00 I ever spent on a plumber. WHEW dodged a bullet on that one. Can you imagine someone getting a flame near that of having that gas leak into the garage and have the
hot water tank pilot light hit that gas. Time to buy lottery tickets.

Yes these grates are 100% stailess steel
Solaire 27GXL Stainless Cooking Grate - SOL-2813R

So the grill fired right up, still stunned the guy sold an almost 4K grill for $200.00. Here's my theory. Here is the Plam springs Ca. are it has one of the largets amounts of the rich and famouse.
I've heard stories where these "rich" people will just toss out a house full of quality furnishings and just replace it all on a whim. This guy worked for a furniture comopany so I'm assuming
he went on a dlivery and the owner of a house they just purchased and said "take this with you I don't want it " I want to buy my own NEW GRILL......yes sir.

With all the suggestions here I let her up and BAKED" whatever was on there. Then I took a razon and attacked it.
Then I "seasoned" the grates. Went 100% high again for 30 mintes, let it cool spareyed cooking oil on all the grates
letthat stand over night wire brushed it high heat again spray cooking oil again.

That's what did it

You know what's next boys, a trip to Costco and a couple of large T bone steaks.

Thanks all for the assist. Where else can you go to get great grill advice than a tracor site.

I do more smoking than grilling but I clean up the racks and smoker using Ammonia water mixture (50-50). Spray it in or soak racks in it and it softens up the burnt on stuff (keep it wet if you are just spraying). Anything that doesn't wipe off after soaking I hit then wire brush or SOS pads. Then wash in hot water and soap and they are ready to go again.

Need to wear plastic gloves because the ammonia is hard on the skin, but it works very well.
