Burnouts Ruining Tires

There is nothing worse that that little round white
thing to spoil a good golf game.
When I was in NAS Corput Christi, TX they had a
club to see who could lay the most rubber. One guy
had a Chrysler put down 160 ft both wheels spinning
another guy says I'll beat that put two chevy engines
in his vehicle and got a whopping 90 ft
In 1958 3 window coupe Chrysler engine 3 speed locked
in 3rd gear from a dead stop hit 166;.44 qtr mile from one
the those small car mags. It's not on the net

To get this back to tractors...

Was at a car show several years ago that put on a burnout contest. Saw two street vehicles blow a tire. Saw a IH 1056 pullin tractor with shaved tires give it a go. Damn good thing he had wheelie bars!!! 🤪

This post really don't belong here..it belongs in idiots drag racing posts somewhere.

Drag cars usually do a brief burnout to warm up the tires so they grip the track better. A few guys will sit there and keep roasting the tires as a show for the spectators but most don't as they actually want to race. The smoke cloud makes it hard to see the tree and your reaction time and thus ET will suffer as a result. A big long burnout also wears out your tires more quickly so you get fewer passes per set of tires.

Yes, learning how to control a vehicle in a skid is a skill that should be taught in drivers ed! I learned it (unchaperoned) in a '47 Dodge pickup back in the 50's out in the pasture in dry as well as slick conditions. It definitely was "drifting" but what better way to learn. We survived.

P.S. Also learned a lot plowing two miles of mud road to and from school.

I learned how to control a vehicle in a slide and other low-traction conditions by driving on gravel roads. The most fun gravel road lesson in sliding I got as a teenager was in pulling a fully loaded grain wagon weighing about four times as much as the pickup truck pulling it weighed. Sliding backwards on a gravel road as the wagon pulls the truck backward from 3/4 of the way up the hill is certainly a unique feeling, on par with pulling a heavy trailer that started to fish-tail at interstate speeds.
