Why have burn barrels become so expensive ?
I use to buy them for $4, the last one I bought about 2 years ago was $8.
Now from the same hardware store, they are $20.

Try shops that do a lot of heavy truck maintenance . They actually have to pay to get their drums hauled away. They buy bulk in 55 gal drums from the local or regional oil supplier. Also try those same oil wholesalers themselves. They often have to pay for their empty drums to be removed and they have a lot of them sitting just piling up.

At least you can use burn barrels. Burn barrels are illegal here. Although there are people who take a chance and use them. It's a hefty fine if caught.

That’s why I live wayyyyy back off the road. Out of sight is out of mind in The People’s Republic of Neuyorkistan.
Yeah but the DEC are like bird dogs. They see a little smoke and follow it to the source and issue that big ticket. Keep your fingers crossed they don't trace it back to you. That's how I got caught. I had been burning for years and didn't know it was illegal till they showed up.

If you can use a "burn RING", I'm gathering the parts to replace the rims on my International 1066 rear wheels. Though I don't know specifically, they are roughly 16 inches deep (bead width on tire) and maybe 30 inches "wide".

I've got the air valve leaking some calcium choride so it's pretty rusted out right there (but still mounted on tractor and still working fine, I just want to fix it before anything happens)

You could have it for free if you wanted. I don't need a ring or barrel, we have a depressed dry pond area where we stack up our burnables.

There's the cost for the barrels and also a dozen .45 rounds to make the air inlets. Those are getting expensive too.

Yep, I had to get a bunch of cardboard going today to get my fire pit lite. :)

Never had a problem with someone using a burn barrel, although I never really understood it. Then at our previous house, once moved in we were delighted to learn that the next door neighbor and the one two doors down used them to burn ALL of their garbage, which is illegal. Ironically, the stuff that you are allowed to burn they put in their compost piles.

It was just lovely working or puttering around the property with the smell of burning plastic, paper and whatever else wafting on the breeze. And they had something burning or smoldering ALL THE TIME. If the weather was nice you couldn't even have the windows open. Put up with that crap for about six months and called the county Dept. of Environmental Health on 'em. So, yeah, I'm the diq.

I have a 55 gallon burn barrel. Only burn paper/cardboard and only when snow on the ground. Use to burn it all. Then I figured why we had so many skunks and raccoons.

I'm way out in the country also. Nearest neighbor - five miles.

Also have burn barrel, only use it to burn sensitive documents that I don't want in trash. Save those up and burn them 2-3 times a year

Washington doesn't like burning or burn barrels.

You give them far too much credit. Now if you happen to have a pet squirrel and raccoon and blab on the net about them they will send in a swat team. Then they will kill them to save them👌

I feel bad for yall. My last two barrels were given to me and it is currently ablaze with wood scraps that have nails and screws in them from my sons home build.
