I never realized how much work goes into a good fireworks show.

One of our bigger shows was for the National Fireworks Association several years back. That one was an 8 man crew and 3 days of setup for a 16 minute show. All choreographed to music and computer fired.

Looks like you changed CTLs in the midst of your project. Did the bigger one you used later also have the better tracks like what you replaced on the 340?

It's not the wrong tool if you only have that one machine. I had a dump truck. If you have more than one person, a loader and dump is great. But for one machine and one person, digging and moving short distances (200-300 feet) a 4WD tractor is not the wrong machine. Also swapping between machines gets old fast. All that time swapping between machines adds up also. My 6520 4WD Mahindra excels at digging ( or pushing dirt) and hauling short distances. The 6520 dug all my pond basins with the loader and moved the dirt.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a CTL.

I moved 40 loads on this job. It was taking me 9 minutes a trip to load and haul 10-11 tons. I had 2 operators but it really didn’t help much. I was going about 200 yards. You couldn’t have touched the time it was taking me. And you’d have probably still needed the excavator. It was taking 6 minutes to load and 3 minutes to drive the truck there and back. It would have taken at minimum the same 3 minutes probably longer to drive the tractor and you’re only moving a fraction as much dirt.

We can but most of the time if we are broadcasting for a big public event the local radio station is involved to handle that. We use time code to sync to the music being broadcast.

Nice catch. The TR340 went in for repairs. Had an injector out. Dealer offered me a trade I couldn't pass up for the TV450 on the lot. They swapped the tracks on the 340 to the 450 for me.

I have a grandson that was asking about what fireworks are made of, what colors them, how are they controlled, etc. His mother told him to search for it, but just wondering. Great pictures of the trailer set up. Thanks for the info if possible. Jon

I'm in the middle of redoing our webpage so nothing on it at the moment other than the main page. Aerial FX, Inc. – Professional Display's and 1.3G supplier Lot's of video's on the subject on youtube. If you're ever near one of the PGI conventions held every year in August it's a great convention for the hobbiest. A week long event for the hobbiest with classes during the week related to shell building and different aspects of pyrotechnics and some of the best display's you will ever see each evening.

Nice swap!

Wasn't really looking to trade but they had this 2019 on the lot with some of the new B-series on the way and must have wanted to move it. They gave me what I was finding as advertised retail online for mine with similar options and hours and the TV450 for the cheapest price I could find anywhere calling around a bunch. My 340 was also out of warranty and the emissions warranty was up this January. Units are the same horsepower but the 450 has increased hydraulics and operating capacity. 4,500 lb operating load at 50% and 9,000 lb tipping load (not sure how much weight or capacity the suitcase weights add) The extra capacity is noticeable when running my 84" brush cutter. Much more stable and will come in handy on some of the side jobs I've been picking up doing some land clearing and cleanup.

Then you stretched it out to 200 yards and added a dump and an excavator. Then you added another operator. But on page 33, post 328, you stated.........."My full size backhoe could carry dirt faster, cheaper, and spill less than the 95 Kubota". So are these machines the wrong ones, or just my Mahindra?

How big is the Mahindra bucket? 3/4 yard maybe? My full size backhoe had a 1.3 yard bucket and weighed 8 tons. It still couldn’t hold a candle to the dump truck and excavator approach. And you won’t touch a big CTL at moving dirt with a tractor. Carrying 200 yards or even 50 yards isn’t the CTLs strong suit but they’ll walk all over you doing dirt work. The big CTLs have you beat in weight, HP, hydraulic speed, hydraulic strength, traction, probably bucket volume, way ahead in bucket visibility, and a lot smaller footprint machine. Moving dirt over distance is the only place you might have the slightest chance of winning and yes I said it’s the wrong tool for the job. CTL vs tractor for carrying dirt any distance they’re both terrible options.
