Building a "Log Horse?"

That sawbuck looks pretty good to me, and should do the trick. Definitely put some diagonals, especially if dropping heavy logs in from the bucket. I am pretty sure my diagonals were added later on, judging by the ragged chainsaw cuts on ends -- was most likely a field modification after some use. I probably noticed some wobbling and tacked those pieces on while cutting (that was back before we had power at our new property, and I can always tell field modifications by the rougher work).

Used it today! Added diagonals and tied the legs together with line.

Could, but the horizontals near the hinge line do that surprisingly well on mine. With one on each side, it doesn't budge, and I just have a few nail gun nails holding mine together. I guess a side benefit to this design is that if you bolt through the hinge line, it can fold up if needed.

That's what I did with mine - used an old piece of wood 1" tool handle and the 4' doug-fir cross pieces that come strapped to units of lumber.
It folds up and I can throw it in the FEL with the saws and all the other stuff I take to the wood pile:
