We don't do christmas, just another day that hjas been exploited but we still give the daughters a few hundred dollars each to go to the sales on boxing day.
I am opposed to blood sports so I don't go to the sales;)

We put a tree up 2 weeks ago........it wasn't planned either. My wife and I were cutting limbs for a path and this smaller tree was in a bad spot, so we cut it. I thought the top of this Fir would make a nice table top tree, and it does. With no kids, no gifts, no shopping, the little tree is just some decoration that is nice to look at. It makes us happy, isn't that what it should be about? Some years we don't even have a tree...this year we have an early one. :grinch:

We just ignore it, all the commercial stuff hasn’t bothered us for years and we barely notice it. Halloween and Christmas seems to have merged into some sort of multi month proto holiday, Hallowmas, or Christween, increasingly unrelated to any specific deity, save possibly Mammon.

Yep, as far as I'm concerned.

I've frequently told people that, compared to me, Scrooge was one of Santa's elves. I hate Christmas and look forward to it being over.

I can relate to what you mean . Espeicially down here in south Fla . nothing like Christmas in the high 80"s and 90 "s with high humidity in late Dec . Hey question Sir with all due respect , is that a Christmas type reef on wall behind your back in your avatar ? If so someone must like Christmas over there ! lol Take care Mr Bird !!!!!!!!............

That Christmas Carol story is basically the coercive socialization of a strong capitalist.

It appears wife is (finally) coming around from buying, wrapping and passing big piles of stuff to lets get kids together, relax and enjoy some family time.

Our Lowes redressed the aisles about 10 days ago. The entire lawn and garden area inside is nothing but.

It does not bother me but unless it's "Granny Got Run Over By A Reindeer", the Christmas music makes my skin crawl

I once heard that Christmas is when you buy something you would love to have, to give to someone who has absolutely no use for it.

My dad would always do that for my mom. Didn't matter the holiday. My mom would always get what my dad wanted for Christmas, Mothers' day, her birthday...

Very observant. And yes, that's what it is, but I didn't have anything to do with it. My wife doesn't share my opinion of Christmas.

Last Saturday we stopped at friends house. Their daughter was watching Christmas movie on Hallmark channel. Still in October, before Halloween.
Can we go back to the simpler times where we enjoyed one holiday at time?
My wife starts playing Christmas music on October 1st. It makes her happy so it's not a huge deal for me.

I "think about it" around the 20th.. when I make my yearly trip to the bank to "shop" for everyone.. I couple of well placed 50's or a 100 bill w/ a FREE envelope from the bank & I'm DONE..
Feel free to put me on your Christmas list :D

You mean you like endless renditions of Santa Baby? I can't stand that song, especially with whatever female singer that they have singing in most stores these days.

The ONLY thing I like about Christmas is the turkey. I take the time then to reflect on what my year has been like. What I could have done differently and what I wouldn't change for the world. Basically the same as I do at thanksgiving. At thanksgiving it is more work related, where Christmas is more of the entire year.

There are 2 radio stations, one in Kalamazoo and one in Grand Rapids that play endless Christmas music starting November 1 and ceasing promptly on December 26. I would prefer starting the music December 20 and run it through New Years Day.

I too, lament the commercialization of the holiday. I try to focus on the birth of Christ first, and the gathering of family second. I'd much rather get together with loved ones as I've grown to learn that spending time with them is the second greatest gift of all.

No, I don't think it's made out of coral or sea shells.

I was going to mention the wreath earlier though, but decided to hang back and see if anybody else noticed it hung there.

The last 2 years (and I figure on doing the same this year) I just gave each of our daughters, grandkids, and son-in-law $100 cash, but I'm not cheap enough to put it in a FREE envelope; I use Christmas Card envelopes that my wife buys.

As an adult, father and husband, I have always dreaded Christmas, both because of the expense and the hassle of trying to buy gifts. Thank goodness Sharn Jean managed to keep it alive for all these years; make it special for the kids and now the grand kids, with a big dinner, lots of presents and and a memorable day for all. I realize now what a blessing she has been and how much love and work she put into it. Women! What would we do without them?

That's my experience too. I can't fill that void, if I even tried. .....RIP Dear.

When giving cash I call it Universal Gift Certificates - accepted everywhere.
