The world is pushing Christmas commercialization earlier and earlier. Store used to wait for the day after to Thanksgiving to put out the Christmas stuff and start the sales.

Today we went to Walmart. Giant inflatable Christmas tree out front. Sign in door: Santa visits starting 11/3 (tomorrow). Shelves stocked with all the decorations, etc.

Last Saturday we stopped at friends house. Their daughter was watching Christmas movie on Hallmark channel. Still in October, before Halloween.

Can we go back to the simpler times where we enjoyed one holiday at time?

The Christmas season can make or break a lot of merchants; then many people spend the rest of the year paying off the credit card bills.
I agree with what you say, but when I asked a store manager why they had their decorations out in September she said it was because people were asking for them.

Because Christmas has become more commercialized, I've found myself dreading "that time of year". It seems to be more along the line of "buy something that you wouldn't buy any other time of the year". I'm more into holidays that they'd have a hard time commercializing - like Thanksgiving. Ones that are oriented around family togetherness.

When I was young nothing Christmas was available until after Thanksgiving. I miss that.
Ive also noticed that there is a growing lack of religious Christmas items for sale.

On Wednesday I went to buy Halloween candy but the grocery store was all out, they only had Christmas candy. So that's what I bought. Only one kid noticed -- and he didn't give it back.

I hate holiday candy. ( I’m not promoting the use of Happy Holidays because we believe in saying Merry Christmas, but I’m instead lumping all holidays together in the term holiday candy. ) it’s usually overpriced crap that I don’t like in a fancy wrapper. I always go to the back of the store and buy all season candy.

The only (sensible) advice I can offer is to try and ignore it. Christmas stuff started being stocked (down here) around the 2nd week of October but, fortunately, I've not seen any blatant commercials yet.

Mind you, we generally don't have to 'put up with' Halloween... That's not to say that 'they' don't try to promote it, but it is, basically, an Autumn festival and, down here, it's Spring! The same goes for Thanksgiving (Canadian or US, take your pick), it's a harvest 'thing' and it's Spring down here. Despite the stores wanting it to 'take off', it thankfully hasn't.

Christmas is, on top of the celebration of Christ's birth, our gathering time of the year... typically for a great luncheon with family & friends. It's Summer!

Christmas commercials ALL OVER the TV.!!!! I hate it.. They jam it down your throat every year..
I do like "WAG" suggests & ignore it.. I'm not one to pizz on anyone parade so when u get the OVER ZELOUS person on the street or work that just has to jump up & down & scream Merry Christmas TO EVERYONE walking buy, in the middle of November>> just smile & keep going..
I "think about it" around the 20th.. when I make my yearly trip to the bank to "shop" for everyone.. I couple of well placed 50's or a 100 bill w/ a FREE envelope from the bank & I'm DONE..

Fortunately, my last big shopping event was in the middle of October. I will not have to go into the "big city" for any shopping needs until after the first of the year. Another advantage of "shopping big" at Costco.

And then it was all out everywhere. Like magic. Like the elves had done it overnight because there was no way the store employees could have.

Since last Friday I've been getting at least one "Black Friday" email every day, this morning I had five. Our chain stores here had their Christmas stuff up around the middle of October.

Reminds me of the old days of TV back in the 50's. All of the network shows were taped and mailed to the affiliate stations...so, we had Thanksgiving specials at Christmas time, and Christmas specials at Valentines or later. It was really bizarre, until they laid cables and we could get it live. I can still remember some of the commercial Jingles: "The cable is coming, hooray hooray...You'll see it all better on RCA...".

Today we went to Walmart. Giant inflatable Christmas tree out front.

We arrived at Walmart yesterday morning to see 3 employees trying to figure out how to put that giant inflatable Christmas tree up in the breeze we had. They had it up, inflated, and were trying to anchor it when we came out.

Sam's Club had lots of Christmas stuff on display for sale already.

I once heard that Christmas is when you buy something you would love to have, to give to someone who has absolutely no use for it.

I've frequently told people that, compared to me, Scrooge was one of Santa's elves. I hate Christmas and look forward to it being over.

I just remember the first 6 letters in Christmas and it don’t matter about the rest. He is the reason for the season.
