Well Soundguy you missed a key point
I don't want to have to remove the backhoe to run off the back PTO
Hence the need to slide something under the tractor and run off the mid-PTO, haven't seen a commercial unit to do that. But you are correct in the cost will be close to Northern's rear PTO drive unit for materials...the fabbing labor I consider fun
Dieznutz- agreed there will be some power loss stepping the speed up 2X...but then consider what must be lost on the rear PTO units that step it up a little more than 6X
Volfantz- both switches on my BX24 are plunger switches...holding them both down by hand allows the mid-PTO to be engaged.
