I'm getting ready to order the 4-6 spool valve for my crane and Ebay has some that are lower cost but use the BSPP fitting, is it worth it to buy the valve and then buy a bunch of adapters (can be had for a couple bucks each)? Or just bite the bullet and buy one for 3 times more money that is SAE?
Thanks :)

You will probably need adaptors to go from SAE to the hoses too. If it were me I'd be using all JIC hoses with adaptors to whatever is not JIC.

The expensive valve may be better in other ways however.

Should be able to get fittings that go from BSPP to JIC without to much trouble. More fittings equal more leak points so I try and use the least amount of fittings to get the job done.

What are the existing hose ends on your crane or is this a rebuild?

If you end up going the BSPP route, which is very common on this side of the pond, don't forget to the copper washers or bonded seals. Either one is fine. These fittings just rely on the washers to seal properly, no need for tape or any other type of sealant.

Thanks for the input guys.
It's going to be all new plumbing, I should have specified. I'm building a dump trailer that will have a crane on the tongue.
I can get the 5 spool valve off Ebay for $106, 4 spool for $88.00 vs a 4 spool on SC for $300
6 spool on SC is $425
6 spool on Ebay is $135

If I go with 6 spool I will have power outrigger and power leg.

That sounds almost too good to be true. Any links for those valves?

Wow. What a nice price for a Badesnost valve. Good valves but the internal leakage it's bit higher than the more expensive ones. I have one on my homemade backhoe, it has over 800 hours easily and it's been working perfectly. I converted it to joystick with my own design. I also have several single spool from the same manufacturer.

Does the shipping and custom costs still make it worth for you?

They do have some cool prices. I might bite the bullet and get an accumulator for a soft ride feature for the loader.

I've never seen such prices. I wonder what the story is? Just considering the fixed machining costs, that price doesn't leave much for people & materials.

None of the important features such as load checks........

I do not know how important these would be on a crane but I think they would be if they are included in better loader valves

I just saw this post. I bought the 4 spool version of this valve on eBay and it isn't as crusty as I was expecting considering the price. Discount hydraulic hose has the BSPP-JIC adapters in stock, a bit more expensive than SAE-JIC but not bad. The pain was getting a power beyond sleeve, took 2 months to arrive from Finland. I have some projects this fall where extra remotes will be nice so hope to get it installed on my tractor in the next few months.

Load checks would be important to me if I were building a crane. Not having them would be a deal breaker regardless of how cheap the valve is.
