I am going to purchase a brush hog for my 30hst next month. Should I look at the 6 or 7 ft. I will be in mostly small 1 to 2 (sparce) inch stuff with grass overgrowth. I don't anticipate any real heavy cutting. Thanks for the input

/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Oh Yea! Any feed back on the King Kutter hogs? I have a TS about 4 miles away. Also looking at the Kioti hog which is a little more money. Just wondering if it is worth the extra??

I'd be looking at the 5' if it were me. 6' would be pushing it and 7' IMO should not even be considered. Talk to your KIOTI dealer. I doubt they will recommend anything different.

I'm running a 5', don't think 6' would be a problem, not sure about the 7' though.

I have the 5'KK and would not consider a 6' for two reasons. One, with what I mow the 6' would be to big (not enough power)
two, it would stick out beyond the tire width cutting down on it's manuveabilty

I have a 5' hog with a slip clutch. Get a slip clutch.

If the brush was light I might go to a 6' hog but for most any other time including the occasional 1 or 2 incher, a 5' is better. Of course that is only a problem if you want to have a decent ground speed and want to take a full bite with the hog. Slowing down and more overlap will allow you to limp through anything.

If you want to use the same hog to maintain it after the initial cut then I would go for a 6 footer but on the first pass, take a smaller bite meaning overlap your passes a bit so the hog isn't trying to eat a full 6 feet.

Note that your manual calls out the max width of rotary cutter for your tractor. I could swear it was 6 feet.

I would not consider a 7 footer. I think that is the typical limit to single blade hogs.

I believe you are right about the 6 footer. I will be sure to get the slip clutch which ever I choose.

Rap,

I have the 5' as recommended by the dealer. However, my pasture(s) is flat bottom land. After using mine to cut some 1 yr overgrowth, i think that a 6' would suffice. I was cutting fescue that was 3-4' tall without any trouble. I have a slip clutch, but the Ck30 didn't even notice i was in the thick stuff. If you are going to be doing light "maintenance" cutting on level ground, i don't see why a 6' would not work. Just my .02 cents worth!
