To answer the OPs original question....

LP is a well respected, name brand and the 26 series will cut what you describe.

I don't know for sure who makes the MX6 for Deere now but have heard it is Kodiak. I suspect, but don't know that the problems are resolved however resale may still be a problem (I wouldn't buy a used one).

BTW, where I grew up in Texas these were most commonly called "shredders." If not that then "brush hogs." But I won't pretend to be a self-appointed internet expert on farm implement nomenclature. :laughing:

I'm calling it a shredder from now on. Sounds more manly to say I am going out to do some shredding rather than rotary cutting.

If I were cutting down cotton stalks or corn stalks after harvest, I would be shredding. If cutting overgrown pasture land, I would be bush hogging or if just clipping weeds from good pasture land, I would call it mowing. It all depends on what I am doing with a rotary cutter.

I have a six-footer from Modern AG, made in USA. Lift type. It works pretty well, price was reasonable but I don't know if it's because of the galvanized construction or not, but I've had to buy stock in nylock nuts to keep all the big nuts from backing off, no matter how much torque I put into them. The pins aren't supported well either, so they have pulled their carrier a little crooked.

I've been eyeing the Kodiak 10-foot pull type, because it looks sturdy and the price is a little better than the others. I'm just not sure about buying another unit from a lesser-known brand.
