Brush Hog

There isn't much difference between the bigger name brands. You want a good source for blades and replacement parts. Landpride has a great website with every part for every mower broken down so you can easily figure out what you want. Landpride is also sold at every Kubota dealer, so that makes getting parts easy to. Every brand has different levels of how heavy duty they are. Will you be cutting grass or will you be reclaiming overgrown woods with small saplings mixed in? Be sure to compare apples to apples by their rated HP use. I also prefer a slip clutch over a sheer pin. Having started out with a sheer pin, it's night and day better to have a slip clutch.

As for what you call it, obviously by the replies, everyone knew what you where talking about. I don't understand the need to correct people on something so basic. Brush Hog, Bush Hog, Rotary Cutter, or just a rear mower. Who cares?

Jeffy,
You must believe in your use of google as proprietary. Info above copied verbatim
from bush hog website. YAWN..... And is the use of latin a means to talk down to members.? Doubt there is actually a latin phrase for "rotary mower"

Curious about Florida drinking age? In another post, you mentioned having graduated from HS in Washington State in 1965. And you are "precise", ok.

EDIT: waiting for a member to state that their TBN experience was enlightened by quirky Latin phrases, it is simply a disconnect. Minimal posts seem to deal w/
medieval dysfunction but then if the shoe fits.

Now, now, this is a tractor-in-horiculture web site where questions about The Law and medical dysfunctions are occasionally posed.

I have, for the moment, declined to contribute in classical Greek. Greek might brand me an outlier.

There are lots of good heavy duty rotary cutters out there for way less than 4 grand look at Kodiak or even kk .

Agree w/ justin,

Member may use terminology of their choosing. And if a member chooses to exclude their location or if the tractor avatar is outdated, that also is NOT jeffy's concern. Moderators will decide forum rules. Cantankerous elderly members should refrain from intimidation, just impolite.

Couldn’t agree more. If you don’t like it, or it bothers you that much don’t comment in the thread.

I have used my Land Pride RCR2672 several and cut a LOT of brush and grass, put a bit over 400 hours the first year to catch up. I also use a Woods DS1260 10' and really like it. I've owned/used different brands and now stay with those brands. If buing another 6', I'd have to flip a coin.

Lots of great medium duty cutters out there. Pricing is all over the place. I recently bought a new 6' cutter and shopped the normal brands, Land Pride, Woods, Bush Hog, etc. and found in some cases, the premium doesn't really buy you anything. I stepped back to brands that were not as well known and found equivalent quality for quite a bit less money. I ended up with a Silver Edge SE1506 which came with a 100 HP gear box and slip clutch for under $1,800. It has continuous welds, floating hitch, replaceable skids, 10ga deck, 2.5" capacity, etc. Pretty nice cutter for the money.

In the south it's bush hog. If you said shredder or brush hog it's like you cut wind in church.

I am NOT elderly. I'm not even old enough to drink. Avatar is my Grandfather.

I would describe myself as precise, not intimidating.

My wife might describe me as moderately hopeless but a provisor bonum.

My wife celebrates her 18th birthday next Wednesday.
I appreciate Jeff's comments and advice. He seems to bring advice from his own experience running several machines. I am not so excited when anyone misrepresents themselves while still trying to engage others in a productive dialog. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5061753

Thank you to all of you who had some valuable input vs complaining about the terminology I used.
