Brush Hog or Finish

/ Brush Hog or Finish #21
Hi,
I was thinking of getting a brush hog for my B3030 too. what size are you getting. I was thinking of getting the 60" if the B3030 would handle it, otherwise i gues the 4'.
Also never using one before would you cut in Med or low?

thanks

forgot if anyone else knows, was looking at the king tutter and saleman was not sure about the B3030.

they had two, one was for a subcompact tractor it had two wheels in the back. the other was for bigger tractor he said with one wheel in the back. he said it had to do with the hieight of the tractor and which one i'd get.

OK, for a personal opinion, I'd definitely want the 60" brush hog for the B3030. I used a 60" with my B2710 and considered it just the right size. I mowed almost exclusively in the mid-range. Most 3-point brush hogs have the single rear wheel, while the pull behind from the drawbar brush hogs have the 2 rear wheels. However, the King Kutter Model L-60-60-HD has the two rear wheels, undoubtedly because it's so heavy. Apparently it's about 800 lbs. compared to about 500 for lighter duty rotary cutters. So what are you going to be cutting? If you're never going to be cutting anything over a couple of inches in diameter and mostly weeds, grass, vines, etc., I think I'd consider the lighter one that's easier for the 3-point hitch to pick up, as well as costing a lot less. Of course if you're going to cut bigger saplings a lot, then maybe that heavy duty one is right for you, and you just transport it with the wheels on the ground instead of picking it up.

Thanks Bird

I think i see now the one with 2 wheels only pulls.

This is the one i wanted to get but the saleman thought my tractor might be too small for it as in hieght??
single wheel cutter

This will give you an idea of what i'm cutting. Trail there is about 30miles of this to cut, I will not do all of it . it get to be knee waste high in some areas. Another bigger tractor will do some of it but the rotary cutter is pretty beat and they are not going to replace it. So certain trails i want to get better myself.

King Kutter makes a BX series rotary cutter that is orange and sized for the BX tractors. It has two rear wheels but is still a 3pt mount. I believe that they only come in 4ft size. If you can get the Bush Hog brand for $700, I'd probably go for that! The KK rotaries are currently going for $650 plus tax at our local Tractor Supply Co. right now. I've got a 4ft model which I'd bought for my B7100, but still using on my B2400 and it works fine. I've thought about trying a 5ft behind the 2400 to see if it would pull it ok as I think the 5ft would probably cut a little better due to increased blade tip speed.

Bob, I don't understand that. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't understand his concern about your tractor's height. If you had a BX, maybe I could understand it, but not B3030.

Bird,

He was not that fimilar with the Kubota models, but from what i'm seeing here and looking at the litature on the cutter closer , it looks like it will be fine. I understand now about the sub compact and compact models . I might take a quick look at the Brush Hog brand too, i think the Kubota dealer carries that one.

Thanks

Bob

I would personally go with the finishing mower unless as stated before you are planning on being in heavy stuff a majority of the time. If that is the case buy a cheap riding mower with the extra funds.

Well, after reading all the replies I decided to go with the brush hog and the money saved bought a rear blade and rear rake. All from bushhog and still have $200 left.

Thanks for all the help guys.
