Hey guys, I have broken a tie rod end on my L 3200. I was bush hogging, ran over a stump, stopped and tried to back up. And that's when the tie rod broke. Is this a hard thing to change, or do I need to call the dealer for repair. I appreciate all the excellent advice you all give! Thanks so much.

Well RJ, I am interested in that answer also. No I haven't broken a tie rod yet, just bent the rod a little, but never know when the other might happen.

Boy, that snapped right in two before I could do anything to stop it. I knew I had a problem when right tire was turn right and left was turning left!!!!!

Keep the old parts. Count the threads showing and adjust the new part(s) to match and you should be pretty close to how it was before you met the stump. A little grease on the threads won't hurt either.
To remove the old tie rod ends, whack the casting where they bolt through. The slight distortion that induces will usually allow the taper to release. Good luck.

They also make a tapered fork like tool to split joints like that, often called a "pickle fork". You just beat on the end of it with a hammer, I think they also make one that will slip into an air hammer.

Anothre trick is to "paint" the assembly (tie rod threaded to a point on the the threaded shaft). Then (after the paint dries) you will always know how far to turn the new tie rid on the old shaft. FOrked tie rod remover:

10 bucks from northern tool. Another option, since you are replacing the tie rod, you can just leave it's retaining bolt screwed down to where there is 1/8 inch before the bolt bottoms and smack it with the ball peen hammer to break it loose, once loose unscrew the bolt adn the tie rod falls out.
If you mess up the threads, no problem you are replacing them along whit the tie rod.

I ordered a new tie rod end from Kubota dealer, the new tie rod end is a one piece part! It is not anyway shape or form like the original part! I questioned this at the dealer, we looked up the part #, and it shows just like the one I have on my L 3200. Josh, the parts guy @ Kubota, called the place where he ordered the part from, they in turn have place a call to engineering to see if this is a design alteration for this new part. I should know today if yeah or nay on whether to use this Superceed's the original part. I am just wondering if any of you all have had something like this happen on parts before? Thanks guys!
