Broken plastic hood?

Well it's more than 500 my dealer qouted me $675 for the hood and sides he's claiming you can't buy the hood separate from the sides. He also qouted 20 bucks each for the stickers. I got some plastic epoxy today and made a make shift repair. I can live with it for now as I can't spend that for cosmetic damage. I will eventually order a new one but I first want to do some research into buying just the hood. It's on the jd parts site with it's own separate parts # so I can't understand why it wouldn't be available.

Matt, I just checked JD Parts, and it shows a price of $630 for the hood, sides etc. And, are you ready for this- $1000 for the complete hood!!! The upper hood is no longer shown as a separate part #.
If I were to fix mine, which I won't, I would have been better off to do it right away- whie the top was available by itself.

Trader in for an 8N with a metal hood!

It'll last forever with a few rebuilds!

It will also keep all that fiberglass/plastic stuff out of the landfills. You know, the stuff that dose not degrade or rust over time!

Matt, when I called about replacing hood parts on my 3520 the parts guy asked me which sections did I need, right side, left side or top. The decals on the sides are only $2.85 each. So, maybe you need to check with another dealer. I knew it was $600+..............I wasn't wanting you to feel really bad about the damage you did is why I said over $500. Sorry, I should have just layed it on you from the start.

Is the $675 painted or is that extra on top ? With all the recycling laws now you will find a mark on the underside to indicate what sort of plastic it is , this will tell you how to repair it . Also as i'm a master of coverups , i have at times in the same situation used a Matt Black textured adhesive vinyl to cover damage . You could have a Black mat on the hood and it would look like its supposed to be there . Many cars , trucks and machinery have them . Only last week i dropped my mobile phone and broke the outer screen , a 2"X2" piece of this vinyl and it looks like it was made like it .

As i live in Australia it's not much good to tell you where i get it , but i did a quick Google and found a few in your neck of the woods . You can even get Carbon fibre look (probably in the correct tractor colour as well or how about some flames ). I'd suggest if it was of interest to GWH , he get a computer vinyl sign maker to cut a desirable shape to suit the hood via a template in the material of choice . Probably cost $40 or so . Make sure to sand the glue bead with wet and dry or it will show through .
