broken (bent) axel stiga sc9812b

Hi, I have a stiga sc9812b ride on lawnmower, it rolled down a hill and bent the rear left hand axel. Can anyone advise how to replace it? There appear to be around 6 bolts holding a casing, but I'm afraid that if I undo these to look there may be lubricant inside? Any help would be much appreciated.

Stiga is not a brand common in the U.S. but looking at a picture it appears to be like any standard lawn tractor here. The casing you referred to is the transaxle ( transmission and axle unit). Sounds like you have several options....

1. Replace the transaxle unit.

2. Take the old one off and see if individual component parts are available for the transaxle and replace the bent axle.

3. Take old transaxle off, disasseble and try to straighten the bent axle.

4. Take wheel off mower, configure some type of support for the transaxle and attempt to bend axle back into position while on mower.

I tried (4) but cannot straighten the axle enough - tried hitting it with a sledgehammer and piece of wood to prevent damage - perhaps I could heat the axle with a blowtorch?

(2) Dealer says axle is available as a spare part. From below the transaxle there are several bolts. It looks as though if I undo those bolts the cover could be removed, as it half covers the axle maybe the axle could be replaced - however is the transaxle filled with oil or grease which will run out? If so can I replace the lubricant - I asked the dealer but he just says I have to let him do the repair.

It is likely filled with oil or grease. If the transaxle is stamped with a manufacturer and model, see if you can obtain a parts diagram for it to get a better idea of the internal parts before attempting to take it apart.
