Guys can you help me out on this simple problem? I broke my fan belt this afternoon about 1 mile from the house. I was plowing snow from a friends driveway. I managed to limp home after allowing the engine to cool. I had to stop once about half way to let it cool again..... a couple of minute trip turned into 20.
Anyway the old belt is gone so I have nothing to match up. Does anyone know what Gates belt I will need for my 224? Also I assume that I need to loosen the alternator. Is it the bottom bolt? Anything I should look out for while replacing the belt?

Thanks

Gavin

According to my parts sheet, it should be a Gates 9400.

Thanks I have that number too, I just wanted to ensure it was correct. Have you replaced your yet? Is there anything "special" to look out for when doing the job or is it pretty straight forward?

The fan blade to shroud clearance is probably tight. There should be a mounting/adjustment arm mounted to the engine that controls radiator tilt (forward-back). Loosening that up might help in moving radiator enough forward to get belt around fan blades. Make sure you set it back, or you might eat-up some of those plastic blades.
