I'm trying to save at least one, maybe 2 trips across a 10 ac Duck Hole in MS Delta. Right now, the ground is dry and will need 2 passes to cut mowed residue with a 8' disc. About 15-18 gal of fuel per trip and 1.5 trips already with a 10' mower.
Idea is to mount a 12v broadcast spreader on the disc to seed rice and jap millet thus saving one trip.
I can drag a 3 bar harrow behind the last pass.

Surely somebody has tried this and been successful?
Its almost foodplot time!
How do you plant the foodplots??

My FiL had to different disc seeder he had built for farming to plant wheat and soybeans. He also raised rice a few years and I think he used them to plant rice too.

The first he had a seed box from a grain drill mounted on a disc about 20’ wide. It had a ground drive system from the disc tires/wheel hubs.

Later he had a Gandy air seeder box mounted on a folding 24’ disc that was hydraulically driven.

IIRC both setups dropped the seeds in front of the rear gangs.

As seed costs increased this setup fell out of favor since it put down more soybean seed than a row planter.

Neither setup packed the seeds to ensure good seed to dirt contact, so he ran a cultipacker afterwards.

I have a IH end wheel drill but it plants on top of trash requiring a pretty clean seed bed. 4 or 5 passes with disk.
I'm thinking a 2 pass rig to
expedite Duk hole as time is running out to make grain before frost.
Duk Hole is a priority endeavor every year.
