I've been thinking seriously about getting the skid plate, and Richard has been very prompt and helpful in answering my questions, but I have one that I would like answered by users.

I know the skid plate is compatible with the MMM, but how does it impact the already dificult task of attaching the mid PTO shaft. I've gotten relatively good at doing it now, sometimes it only takes a minute or two to make that connection, but I worry that the skid plate will limit my access to the connection and make this much more of an ordeal.

So, can anyone who uses the skid plate with the MMM please comment on the relative difficulty of attaching the PTO?

Thanks,

Two words. GET IT!! Richard puts out great products. I have one of his earlier designs and have had no problems attaching the PTO. I had a problem with the shaft hitting, but the new design has taken care of that. Richard stands behind his work 100%, Great guy to deal with.

Thanks for the comments CT_Kubota,

Here is the new skid plate extension, this gives you guys a view of how long it does cover the belly of the BX.

Thanks again,

Richard/Bro-Tek

I have the Bro-Tek skid plate and have mounted the MMM only once since the install but actually found it easier to attach the PTO shaft. Go figure!

Thanks for the replies.
I sort of figure that if no one has complained about it, it's likely not an issue.

The BX series tractors uses a plastic fan driven off of the drive shaft to help cool the HST and just below and off to the side of this driveshaft is the HST's fluid filter. Coupled with the BX's lower ground clearance, many folks have had sticks and other debris get up into the fan breaking blades and also damaging the filter. Normally the MMM protects these vitals from harm when its mounted but when the MMM is removed to increase ground clearance, especially when working in woods or rough dirt etc, there is no protection for these vitals hense the need for a skid plate.
There have been many folks who have posted their designs as well as the fine products made by Bro Tech. Depending on how and where you use a BX, a skid plate is a good idea.

I don't have a mmm for my bx23 and have been nervous about the fan , filter, etc when off the beaten trail. I just installed the Bro-Tec skidplate and found it was well thought out, well made, and easy to install. The only thing I did change was to repaint it to match the Kubota grey frame color. I did see that the filter is pretty close to the plate, but I am told it can be changed without taking the plate off. I plan on contacting Richard from Bro-Tec to order the new extention now which will cover the fuel filters and wires further up. Seems like cheap insurance to me and gives some peace of mind for the lack of clearance of the bx.
On another note, I did also just install the Bro-Tec thumb. I haven't had the chance to use it yet or take pics. When I do, I will post if anyone is interested.

I use my rear skid plate all the time with my 60" MMM, and have no problem removing or installing the deck. However, I had to remove the front skid plate since the MMM gear housing would have hit against it.

Did that. Every single page says "under construction." I'd like to get some information about the items before I buy.

Did you click onto the "Dowload PDF"?
You must first have an acrobat reader install on your PC. This is a free software.

Please let me know, since the web site is working for me.

Thanks,
Richrd

I bought both the front and back skid plates from Richard last year. Although I remove the front plate when the MMM is on, I have no trouble installing the MMM with the rear plate on however, I did share your concern initially.
