Frank,
Looking good! That sure is a fancy-smancy window; I bet your wife likes it!

I believe you will be very glad you chose to put the exterior door in the attic. It will make carrying stuff into the attic much much easier. Carrying stuff of any size up our pull-down steps is not fun at all.

Well the attic door is working overtime - I'm already starting to fill it up from my small garage and storage. Kind of a "walking the plank" right now to get in there, till I can get it to grade. Quite a bit more material to move yet...

Yes, I really like the octagonal window, and glad it has a screen and opens for ventilation. The wife wanted a round window, but sold her on the much-easier -to-install-and looks better window!

I would recommend putting a couple of coats of Poly-u on that attic floor bef you get it too filled.

Also, a couple of coats of good epoxy (not Rustoleum) on the slab after it cures for 30 days.

Do it now while the bldg is empty; you'll never get around to it later regardless of your good intentions. Makes it look better and it's easier to keep clean.

Appreciate you taking the time to check on me, I've been overwhelmed with a variety of projects, and have made a little progress on the garage. More pics and details coming soon......

thanks again!

Frank, please keep us posted on how the sealing around the blocks work. I am always concerned about water coming in. I think you took care of it, but I just want to know how it handles the water. It kind of looks like a basement from the photos. Great work, and great looking shop!

Sealing the block. We put tar on all the sub-grade block, and I wanted to also put the buttonboard (or dimpleboard) also on all sub-grade block. There is backfilled gravel all the way up to grade. I'm very concerned about keeping water out!
I know what water can do to a block foundation, my FIL has a block garage built into a bank and his back wall has a serious vertical crack. I really don't want to face that issue down the road.
As far as sealing the top of the buttonboard against the block - I talked with the contractor that fixed my basement wall crack, who is responsible for introducing me to the buttonboard. They use the "tar" caulk, like the roofing tar, but in caulking tubes. My sub and I talked this over, and decided to go with his idea of using the adhesive strips called "ice and water", which we laid over the top of the buttonboard, and it gets melted on with a propane torch. I like this sealing process much better and should keep water from getting behind the buttonboard.

Side projects. Funny how 1 project can give birth to so many more.....

I want to extend the retaining wall around to the garage, and continue it on the other side of the garage. There is no easy access to the lawn behind the house, so I decided to build a set of steps here. This project is ongoing and in the capable hands of my mason sub. (who has also been doing all the other garage work)

Sorry guyz, I've failed you.....didn't really get any pics of the trench I dug to the house, for the water and power. Brought in 2 tons of sand for the bottom of the trench, drilled a hole thru the basement wall, then went inside with the hilte drill and opened the hole up for the conduit. Drilled a separate hole for the water line. Now just need to run the wire under the joists in the basement, hook to the panel, install box in garage, etc. Same with water. House has 400 Amp service, I think 100 Amp to the garage should be plenty? Or should I go 200 Amp? Needs are lighting, and multiple 110 outlets....I'll probably put in a 220 outlet by the door for any future needs. Don't own a welder. Currently have a small compressor. Thoughts?

Another side project......when we bought the house, we had around 7 pallets of retaining wall blocks in the yard. I knew at one point they would need to be moved.....and wasn't looking forward to it. With garage progress taking its due course, I earmarked the outline of our "approach", or "apron"....the spot between the 2 garages. This area of course included where the 7 pallets of block lay. Not to mention my drain pipe from the garage gutters/footer drains would run right thru there.....so the dubious task began.....
