Actually, I think this whole subject falls into the category of splitting hairs. Weight is weight. Some methods of ballast add somewhat more or less, may change the dynamics, suspension characteristics, or weight distribution slightly, may be easier or harder for some to do or to maintain. But they all pretty much get the same job done and there is no absolute right answer.
