Branson 2800H
I have been trying to get the "collar" loose so I can change the fuel filter on my Branson 2800H. It is stuck solid from the factory. I put some channel locks on it, a real tight fit and can't get them on all the way around. I sprayed it with "Creep" and can't budge it. If I reef on the collar any harder I will bust the whole filter assembly off. Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas? I am trying to avoid taking the assembly off all the way, but maybe I have to??
Thanks for your help.

Have you tried a strap wrench? Sometimes mine on the Kubota gets stuck and Ill use a strap wrench since it distributes the force evenly and doesnt mar the piece.

Thank you! That's the one wrench I don't have. I need to go to town tomorrow to NAPA and get one.

if you have room stick a flat head screw driver right through it and turn

Sometime it takes a 1/8 turn and then you need to pull it down to remove the filter

Not sure what exactly the “collar” and “assembly” are, but I have used a cold chisel or punch on the filter base in the past with success. Another great tool I keep around is a chain wrench.

Might call Buster Jenkins in Plainview, TX. and while you are at it, buy your filter from him.....sorta pays for his time...as a courtesy.

Yeah, I'm going to get a strap or chain wrench in town. The "collar" is what screws to the fuel filter assembly and holds the cap and fuel filter element. I called it a collar. I found a Branson diagram on line and on that it is called a fuel filter assembly.

The ring that holds the clear plastic filter housing has notches on it all the way around it.
Take a screw driver and a hammer and LIGHTLY tap on one of the notches to the left and it should come off. Be sure to replace the rubber O ring that sits on top of the plastic housing.
Good luck.

I had a tough time reaching the filter ring on my fuel filter on my Grasshopper (Kubota diesel) when I was trying to use larger wrenches, so I made a simple spanner wrench from a piece of thin rod. I think it was 1/8" or maybe 3/16", and I bent it into a semi circle matching the ring's diameter, with a small tail at one end for a short handle. I bent the tip of the semi circle inwards providing the nipple or tooth that bites the ring. That made it simple to remove the ring.
