Just curious, there seems to be X tractor making machines for brand name ______. Of course brand name _____ ups there price, but they're selling the X tractor which could be bought for, usually thousands of dollars, less, so why bother with the brand name ___unit in the 1st place? I realize that Brand name may have more or closer dealers, but is it really worth a 3-5- or more thousand $$$$$ mark up? Just wondered if anyone else has pondered this in their mind?

I am not trying to knock any tractor, that is why I left blanks. I also have found something interesting through the years, some folks will only buy a product if the price is higher. They truely believe higher $$$ means better quility, in some cases this may be true but in many it is false. Research is the only true way to find quility in any product. Higher $$$ in all honesty only means "so an so" payed more.

Some people are brand specific, and that's fine for them. When I was looking I didn't know any better and looked at the big 3(green,blue and orange)I could not afford the tractor and impliments that I wanted so I looked "off brand" and then narrowed it down from there.I may be sorry later when I need parts but maybe not.I'm happy with the tractor I got at a price I could afford.Might be a different story if I was looking at a "Big" tractor instead of a CUT.

There are a lot more factors involved than just money. What type of person you are. Are you mechanically inclined? Do you need a dealer for everything to do with your tractor? Do you have good local dealers, or is one better than the other. Are you making a living with the tractor? A lot of these things are all interrelated. It is not just tractor A costs X amount and tractor B costs X amount less. Oh if it were only that simple. :confused2:

the big 3 will always have dealers close by.where as the off brand dealers are here today an gone tomorrow.an then if you by from them your stuck.

all good points. I wonder if those buying name brand realize they are buying nothing different then the guy buying brand X for a couple thousand less? I've seen just as many problems with name brand then with others{previous jinma owner}. This of course IMO makes the dealer more important then the tractor to some extent. I've also seen better warrantys on underdogs trying to get their product out there. I quess my question is, is ignorance bliss when sales can hide behind a name and facts? Does this also help keep prices higher then what they should be?

It is fairly well known that Daedong makes virtually the same tractor for McCormick, Kioti and BobCat that I know of. Reasonably well known is that LS makes their own, and contracts for New Holland. When you get down to the TYM-Mitsubishi-Mahindra connections, it all gets rather blurry for me.

If I liked the basic tractor that is sold in three colors, I'd shop for the best deal, of course. I'd also take into account any minutia of differences and as to whether those minutia mattered to me. I sure as heck take the dealer into account. Most folks here on TBN pretty much have this stuff figured out and work it to their advantage, if they can angle one.

The uninformed? Well, there will always be guys who don't know or don't care or who don't study up much. I don't know.

Rebranding-parallel models-cooperative models, decals, etc has been going on for a long time. Remember the "Geo Brand" (sic) that merely resold Japanese cars under the Chevrolet badge? Or, Dodge selling lots of Mitsubishi products with the penta-star badge? :confused3: None of this is new.

all depends on what your wants are.

if a collector.. you may very well be seeking a specific make / modle.

if looking for a worker.. many are colorblind and look for options, ergonomics, dealer support and pricing.

still others bleed the same color as their tractor and onbly go with that brand..

It's really a mindset. Yes, you look at some of these prices and you think why in the world does everybody not get a ___? Well, people want to know they can trust these machines. A large dealer network, parts network, warranty, and reviews are all key - and all cost $$ (except good reviews, but good reviews come only from good products, which cost a lot of $$). Some of the prices are tempting, but its so minimal over the period of time you own the machine that I like knowing what I'll have 10, 15, 20 years from now.

I'll skip over any tractor brand names to avoid the "noise" that this might add to the thread... The thing that has always driven me to one of the more common brand name tractors is this. I buy tools to work for me. And when I need to get something done I expect the tool to perform. My tractor is a tool, and it is important to me that it work properly every time I need it.

If you consider the volume of the most common name-brand tractors, you see (relatively speaking) a fairly small volume of weird or catastrophic failures posted on here. And if you consider the relatively small number of lower cost brand X tractors sold, you see (relatively speaking) a fairly high volume of weird or catastrophic failures mentioned. Another factor to consider is resale value and depreciation.

I'm not "right" for deciding to pay the extra dollars for a common brand-name tractor. It's just what works best for me. I can fix many things if I put my mind to it, but I choose to minimize that likelihood because i enjoy using my tractor more than fixing my tractor. For others, the chance to save a few thousand dollars trumps the possible inconvenience from a weird or catastrophic failure and it's what works best for them. I say, you just figure out which of these two profiles fits you best and go with that. Good luck with your purchase and don't forget the pictures after the purchase.
