Ok, here's the background. When we built our house, we designed the garage to double as an indoor sports court for volleyball, basketball, etc. I used fiber-rock on the walls and put heat in the floor for the winter. After searching for several months I finally came across a pair of barely used full size basketball hoops from a Middle School that had closed down. These are the professional kind with 3/4" glass and a full 6 feet across the backboard. I never realized how much these things weighed until I went to pick them up - WOW!
I'll bet they are easily 200lbs and then another 15 - 20lbs for the heavy duty break-away rims.
I got them home, unloaded them in the corner of the garage and there they sat for almost a full year! Well . . . I finally got around to buying some heavy duty 2" pipe and flanges to mount them to the wall and after careful measuring I had everything ready to go - at least so I thought. I kept racking my brain on how I would get this very heavy backboard lifted up 10 feet off the ground in such a way that I could bolt it to the pipe flanges. I called several friend who I thought might have a pulley system or hoist that I could borrow - no luck!
Then, driving home from my son's soccer game it dawned on me that I own a very capable tractor with a very nice set of pallet forks! Problem solved. It did the job with ease! Just don't report me to the OSHA police.
Next time, I will plan on using the tractor from the beginning!
