Last time it snowed my son asked if he and some of his friends could ride the 4 wheelers out on the 1 1/2 acre lot we own right behind our house. I said yes but I didn't realize that he was going to be out there all day, nor did I realize that he was going to have the whole county over to do it. He plowed that place up GOOD!!!! It is so rutted up I'll never be able to mow back there. So now of course, I'm going to have to get out there and fix it. It was something I needed to do anyway because it's a low area that naturally flows to the next door neighbors pond. I've been needing to kind of shape it to focus the flow anyway.

I've got access to a box blade but I'm not sure how well it will work with the turf tires I've got on my Ford 1510. What do you guys think? Will it work? Or should I see about getting another tractor in there with Ag tires? The area stays real wet for several days up to a couple of weeks depending on how much rain we got.

Does a Ford 1510 have MFWD/4x4?

A couple of weekends back I was hauling some logs up our driveway and at the same time lightly cleaning up the gravel driveway. I have Ag tires.

I noticed that the wheels slipped which I thought was odd. Then the real wheels just stopped and started digging.

I had turned of the MFWD and the box blade had just enough gravel, not much, to stop cause the rear wheels to dig in. Turned on MFWD and off I went.

With Turf tires you might be slipping some wheels. :D But it will not hurt to try. If you have MFWD you should have been luck. Without just try some very small bites of dirt....

The key to this is the box blade won't work with mud and neither will the turf tires!!!!

Heh - reminds me of my kids and friends. I don't think you'll be able to blade that area unless it gets really dry. Even if the mud dries up, any vegetation is going to prevent the blade from working.

Do what any responsible parent has to do eventually - just give up and let it turn into a track. That's what I ended up doing. "The whole county" (or at least their kids) had a ball for years. Last year, now that the kids are doing other things (finally), I broke out the tractor, brought in 100 yards of loam, and turned it back into a yard.

I have a Ford 1620 4wd with turf tires and have had good luck using my boxblade. However, I do have chains on my rear tires. I have also pulled a two-bottom plow and a disk harrow with success. That little tractor never ceases to amaze me! Art is right though, you won't have much luck working in the mud with a boxblade

thanks guys, that's what I was afraid of. No, I don't have 4WD, only 2. I wasn't sure about using a box blade for that but I didn't know what else to try. I wonder about getting a section of chain link fence to drag behind the tractor and try to knock the tops of the ruts off. It's going to get real thick back there where the water sits after it soaks in as much as it can. I'm going to have to get back out there to cut it at some point!

Rent something like a t190 skid steer for a day and get it all exactly how you want it, quickly.

That chain link drag should take the high spots down. A landscape rake will also work as long as you have gauge wheels...

Lets see, I have a small fleet of implements but cant remember one that worked in the mud well. I have a box blade on my yanmar which pulls it easily in 2wd but I have R1 tires which are both loaded. I have 4wd as well which definitely noticeable when you fill up the box. My Yanmar is 19 hp. in your case, the box blade will work, but I would wait for a good dry spell and not use the scarifier shanks to reduce wheel spin. I also would tilt your box blade where the blade is about 2-3" off the ground and is riding on the side wall. Basically, shorten your top link similar to the picture i have posted of my 3 point hitch. When using a box blade, I never let my hand off the 3 point lift control since you will gain more precise depth control and will reduce the chance of getting hung up on an underground root or stump. In my last picture it shows my tractor hung up on a stump which was buried when the property was cleared 5 years ago.

I also have a Ford 1510 with turf tires, and I have had good luck using a 60" boxblade with it. The two big differences are, 1. I have MFWD and, 2. I tend to steer clear of the mud, so it's all dry blading. If you get a set of tire chains, I'd think you could do quite a bit... providing things ever dry up.
