I am new to using a Box Blade. Need some tips. I have a gravel driveway with new fairly small gravel.(stone) The problem I have is that it has high and low spots. When the tractor is on a high spot the blade digs in. When the tractor hits a low spot the blade comes up. I have tried adjusting up and down but haven't been able to do it accurately. When the gravel is dry it is hard to spot the high and low spots until you get into it.
I know that you guys have figured this out already. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Thanks

Try this:

Walk the drive and pound two stakes at the beginning and end of each low spot. Set your rippers to a low or short depth. Approach each high spot and engage rippers and box blade in slow or low gear and raise the blade when you reach the second stake. Make several short passes over the areas until it is difficult to distinguish the differences in elevation, and then park the tractor, raise the rippers and pull the stakes. Then make long even passes with the box blade from the beginning to end of drive.

It takes allot of practice but once you get it down the stakes method is no longer necessary.

Good luck, Mark

Thanks Mark. I will have to try that. I am not sure I need the rippers. The gravel is new and the blade seems to pull enough gravel up. I was having trouble getting it to the right place.
The stakes are a great idea. Thanks again.

Your Right...Rippers will only help with the hard packed (old) fill.

You could also try adjusting the top link so the blade isn't as aggressive. This will let you get the feel for how the blade reacts with out digging holes.
