ok guys , I have juice to the starter on the small fused wire , but not the bigger possitive wire from the battery/relay ? Could it be a bad relay switch ? If it is the relay , will any relay work with 2 big terminals and 1 small terminal or do I have to find one for this bolens specifically ? Another question I have is , there are 2 switches under the battery holder , 1 looks like its for the brake switch , the other i'm not sure of , if those are rusted out , will that keep it from starting the engine ? Are there any places in washington state to get Bolens parts ?

Make sure your solenoid body is grounded. The switches are interlock switches. One to the parking brake and one to the pto. They both have to be activated to start the tractor. To get it started bypass those switches butane sure you fix that problem before you run it. Rust will interfere with the connection so clean them off and put an ohm meter on them to test for continuity.

God luck and keep us posted

ok thanks bigdaddydon , i kinda thought they were interlock switches , which will create a new problem as both of them are rusted so i will either have to figure out a way to bypass them or buy new ones. As far as the solenoid goes , i'm wondering if any solenoid will work off a garden tractor , or another possibility is there is a new holand dealer not far from me and they sell small garden tractors there and can prolly fix me up with something similar.

They are standard. Any 3 pole will work. Even 4 pole work you just leave one of the small poles open. Plenty on eBay or I think the old ford solenoids are the same.

ok , thanks bigdaddydon , now i'll try to figure out how to bypass the interlocks , looks like one is for the brake and one for the implement engagement ? Both are rusted beyond repair .

Just put a jumper wire across the connector. Any solid wire should do

ok ,got the 2 interlocks bypassed , and put another solenoid on it , it spins over with the key now but no spark. I'm replacing the points and condenser as well as the coil , hopefully that will let this thing fire up and start.
