You dont need 3 turbos to do that, but it does make a bigger fireball when you throw a rod...

The article I read about this mentioned that a rod bolt and/or nut failed at full power and the resulting explosion managed to separate the block in two, longways. That's why the cam was free to find daylight in one piece.

Saw that somewhere else as well. Apparently it ran away at the end of the track and the air shutoff failed to close. They posted the data logger info and it shows the RPM climb to just over 8000rpm before it blew apart.

I've seen engines do that at tractor pulls too. The engines get separated where they're not suppose to separate.

I was thinking more along the lines of the driver's jockey shorts! Kind of scary really. The article mentioned that the engine was capable of about 2000hp!

Sorry. I just think such pursuits are really dumb! Having said that. I would consider such failures the only interesting facet of such events.

Sure they can, and to many others what ever their doing is also a waste of time, energy and resources.

I made a much similar remark one time about a guys gambling. He seemed to enjoy pointing out the various ways people in the room spent their pastime. And many spent way more on their hobby than he did. Fishing tournaments, weekend roping jack pots, golf and other sports, pets to shows, antique cars, antique tractors, quilting and yes it can get expensive, motorcycle rides, horse trail riding while he pointed a finger at me. All of these and more were in the room at the time. It’s interesting on what makes the world go around.
