Snow Blew Out Curtis Cab Windshield Yesterday

The biggie is flat glass or curved. I found a place out in WA that made new tempered glass for my Curtis Cab (flat glass), from my CAD drawings for $160 to my door. Had all the holes etc. .... have to make sure your drawings are right, they will make what you order whether it's right or wrong on your end. They only make flat glass.

If I was shopping for a new cab I certainly try to find one with flat glass. WAY cheaper to replace. I kind of have the feeling that OEMs and Aftermarket cab makers moved to curved glass because that's probably the most commonly replaced part of a cab and they don't want people to be able to order from glass shops for a fraction of the cost.

I doubt I would ever purchase a tractor based on glass replacement cost. I broke the glass on the RH door of my new LS because I was careless. An expensive lesson but a good one.

This is not just the glass, it has the top and bottom hinges and weatherstrip, should go on easy.

I would figure out how to get insurance on that tractor (or just the windshield)

My philosophy on insurance.

Insure everything that you can't afford to replace if it's lost. All things you can afford to replace, don't insure.

Yup. Insurance is just gambling & the house always gets their cut. If you can afford to cover a single event you are always going to be better off in the long run. You get to keep the houses cut & everything else will average out.

I was referring to aftermarket cabs when it comes to glass ... OEM you gotta take what they have :)

BX25D-1 stopped immediately but I didn't. Head hit the windshield and it exploded into the cab mostly.

Glass can be very odd when either resisting an outside force or giving way to it.

As a youth, we played baseball in the street often. Within hours of each other, I watched a regulation softball hit a neighbor bedroom window without breaking it. Later saw a wiffle ball, just a lazy curving foul tip, hit the same window and it shattered like it had been hit with a sledge hammer.

Glad you are OK!

I have the same model cab but older, with flat glass. I wonder why they went with curved glass .... seems more expensive and complicated to manufacture the glass, frame, doors etc ... even the wiper would have to be specific.

As a concept, curved glass minimizes reflections. Especially at night.
