I have to replace a hose on my FEL boom cylinder. Do I need to do anything more than crack the fittings while operating the cylinder to get the air out?

I'm the last dude to ask advice regarding hydraluics but.... when I had to take off a cylinder to repair seals, I didn't bleed off air... just hooker her up and went back to work.... Often, ignorance is bliss...

You don't even need to do that.
Just start working the cylinders and your system will self bleed. Any air in the system will eventually get pushed into your reservoir.

Yup, just cycle the cylinders lock-to-lock a few times, then check your fluid level.
