Black Kubota

Just curious:

Tonight we were having dinner downtown in the big city. It is a street that has been converted to a walking mall and buses only.

A city (I assume) worker came by in a little black tractor a with ROPS and a canopy pulling a trailer. It was small but looked to be a CUT. Anyway, it was black or dark grey and clearly said Kubota on the cowl. Didn't get a real good look at it.

Is this a normal Kubota color? I have seen Kubotas since the 80's always oraqnge, I thought.

I have heard tell of black helicopters but not black Kubotas… you need to take a camera back and try to get a picture of the stealth tractor… sounds like it might be shiny and cute /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif… KennyV.

A large number of government agencies will specify vehicles and equipment to be a certain color, I'm sure that is the case here. VA DOT used to be orange on everything, now trucks are stock white and mowing tractors are manufacturer color, construction equipment is now construction yellow. Stock colors save $$$$ over custom painting.

Think our state is getting away from it somewhat, but it's common to see large state John Deere tractors a shade of Kubota ORANGE.

I'm sure they do it for safety, and ease of identification if the units are stolen.

CO DOT does the same thing (orange trucks, etc) but Denver vehicles are not typically black.

If it is a stealth version, will a camera work -- or will I be allowed to take a picture? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, the WVDOT uses WHITE John Deere tractors. I live 5 miles from Middletown Tractor Sales and every once in a while you can drive by and see a few white John Deeres' ready to be delivered to the DOT. These are BIG tractors used for mowing along the interstates and such.
All their other equipment is white also. Pickup trucks, dump trucks, FEL's and even the road graters.
They go the extra mile here in WV...They put blue and gold reflective stripes down the side /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
