Please don't flame me, i"m just a poor joe trying to save my back. I've been using a 10 ton HF manual splitter occasionally between strokes of the maul, and this idea flashed in my head:
Is there a way to connect the loader hydraulic port (quick connect) to the HF splitter cylinder? I'm not looking for anything fast or fancy. Just wondering if it's possible.

Im not familier withthe splitter, is it a bottle jack type? If it is it wouldnt be super easy Id just fine a small junk yard cylinder to make it a full hydraulic rig.

I'm not familiar with the splitter either but if it is the bottle jack type, with only one hydraulic port, you might have trouble releasing the fluid back into the resevoir with out a second line T'ed in somehow.
A new cylinder would solve all that....

Just 'shade treeing' it: The bottle jack works from a very small piston with lots of leverage pumping a very small amount of fluid into a huge (relatively) space. My bet is that you working the handle produces way more force than your tractor hydraulic system does.

That's very interesting. I know nothing about hydraulics. The big piston is 1 3/4" X8" travel. The 2 small pistons that you pump by hand are very small.

the one piston is 1/2" diameter travels 1 3/4" and moves the big piston 1/8".

the other piston is slightly larger and moves the big piston farther but with less force.

Harry, I guess you mean the mechanical advantage of the 3' long lever on the piston? I don't know how that measures against the 2500 or so psi of the tractor pump. I should probably move this to the hydraulics forum...

It would work but it would be easier and safer to add a cylinder even a scrap yard cylinder to it. Make it where it could be switched over to the manual one.

That's what I'm thinking now. an 8" cylinder from TSC and some hoses would be the price limit for this. Otherwise it's worth building bigger. I just figured it was ready to go with just some small mods.
