Why is this thread in Rural Living? -puzzled-

Maybe because at this rate there will be no more "Rural Living" in another 100 years.

I saw something about world population figures the other day on the news.

The thing that caught my eye was how it took from the beginning of time to year 1800 to reach 1 billion. Then we gained another 600 million in a hundred years to 1.6 billion in 1900. Then it exploded to 6 billion by 2000 :confused2:

I was told a while back that there are more people alive today than the sum of all the people that have ever died. I figured that was wrong. But using your figures maybe that is not impossible.

I'm 60 years old, and some figures I recently saw stated that our population has doubled in my travels around the sun. I recall being told that there were 3.5 billion of us critters when I was in elementary school...and now we are on the threshold of 7 billion.

No wonder traffic is getting worse. :D

Don't worry about controlling population. Mother nature will figure out when we have too many people and adjust as needed. She has tools like war, famine, and plague. These are not good things even if you live through them. The other option is manage it ourselves. We have brains. Let's use them to avoid these things. Do we really want to wait until we can't grow enough food, or get enough energy to heat our homes or pump water. With our present technology dependence the collapse will be terrible.

Well war is not a tool of mother nature, it is in man's nature though. So far it seems the planet is handling the population fairly well. and they say it should not keep multiplying as rapidly now. I read somewhere they are predicting much slower growth as a percentage going forward.
But I agree, historically nature has it's ways.

World Population Clock: 7 Billion People - Worldometers

It says population growth as a percentage was highest in 1960's, now is much less at around +1.1% annually.

This would be a good thread to move to the Front Porch forum...I can see it going political and/or religious pretty quickly...

Amen, pass the turkey please:licking:

Point being, the 7 billion number is thrown out there by the same people that throw out the global warming and the spreading the wealth BS.

It fits their agenda.

Do you believe the 7 billion number is inaccurate?

I agree that growth is slowing and that gives me hope. Developed countries are doing pretty well. People have been saying the world is ending for thousands of years and we are still here. We just need to work in the right direction. I think we need to consider how sustainable things are. We don't inherit the planet from our parents, but borrow it from our children.

No, I believe the numbers. The 7 billion that is. China has just peaked or is just about to. You have to remember that the main population is restricted to 1 child per family. I have a friend in Homeland/FBI that lets me in on a few things. Nothing important, just chat. 15 years from now their population will start falling at a decernable rate. 50 years from now they will be substantially decreased and unless they figure out a way to equalize their population they will be hurt by it. They are already looking for ways to stabilize their efforts at population control because they see their 1 child police has created a problem for them in 50 years. They see that they are opening themselves up to loss of the culture as the west is. Once again, I want to say that this is in no way an attack against Muslims. My friend I mention is Muslim and was born somewhere else and his family came here when he was 8 -9 years old.

I really didn't plan on discussing things like this here. I came here because I moved to the country and love tractors. We are a well rounded bunch of folks.

The truth is that Mother Earth doesn't give a rat's arse about countries, religions, wars or any other manifestations of the human mind. The truth is when the environment becomes inhospitable for a species then that species will become extinct. The truth is 7 billion humans are consuming the planet's resources faster than they can be restored and in the process making the Blue Marble uninhabitable. Sad indeed!

Don't discount the global warming from all those extra bodies OH that is a different thread:laughing:.

I agree the supplement from the government per the # of dependents should decrease beyond 2.
Remember its cheaper by the dozen! when the government is footing the bill.

Rest assured that it is not my intention to step on anyone's toes, but I am curious about your post. There are so many forums on TBN that cover many different varieties of topics and subjects. These forums vary in some degree from mundane to intellectual. But one constant is that TBN members enjoy every variable associated with tractors, from maintenance questions to enjoying their Seat Time and most everthing in between. Before adding a post to a thread, most readers begin reviewing the thread and the subject matter that is being discussed before posting. It is 100% obvious that you had followed this procedure somewhat. But my question to YOU is why you posted TWO lengthly posts previously to this thread before your stated your feelings in this post. That surely sounds like the GUILTY judging the GUILTY. Doesn't it? A simple solution would have been to go to another forum that was more agreeable to your taste. Food for thought?

Equilibrium - Resources .vs. Population explosion

The planet can accommodate many more humans, but the price would be more organized farming, less land to live on, closer neighbors, more impact on environment, etc.

Social unrest and general consensus will most likely determine the amount of discomfort that will be tolerated, thereby controlling population in any specific area. "if you don't like it, then leave" attitude, if you will.

I like the freedom to move around and don't like the thought of that becoming a commodity. Won't happen in my lifetime, but will happen eventually.
