I know why I like this board ... you guys can make me feel better about myself. I thought stuff like that only happened to me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's nice to know that I have company.

Re: Bird wasn\'t joking!!

I've been there many times myself. Sometimes I have a hard time fixing something because my own stupidity keeps getting in the way. It usually ends up costing me $ in the end.

Sound, that's a perfect example of Horner's Conundrum (I'm Horner): "Everything you want to do, you have to do something else, first."

Re: Bird wasn\'t joking!!

Never much cared for a direct drive compressor. I am a little hard of hearing but they appear to be about twice as loud as a conventional belt drive cast iron pump. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I also think a belt drive pump is a whole lot easier to service IMHO.

Check out you local Home Depot they have pretty good prices on belt drive compressors.

Re: Bird wasn\'t joking!!

perhaps a mistake, but today I called Campbell hausfeld to see how much the errors of my ways would cost me. Seems they do not have the "engine block" part that I need, UNLESS I buy an entire motor assembly (electric part included) for about $170 I think he said /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sooooooooooo for about twice that amount, I went ahead and ordered a new cast iron, oiled twin cylinder system from him. I think he said factory refurbished or something... I didn't really mind.

Sooooooooo, now that I have a new one on the way, I have this old carcas sitting here that has a perfectly good tank, perfectly good electic motor (5 hp peak I think).

So, do I just chuck these into landfill, sell as parts on EBAY, sell whole thing on EBAY? Or, do I remove motor for some nefarious use that up to now, I do not know about?

I've never had a known need for an electric motor laying about, so any suggestions?

(someone WANT this at your shipping expense?)

I'm open to all possiblities.

Re: Bird wasn\'t joking!!

Do you ever need a portable air tank? It should be relatively light after you remove the motor. And an electric motor mounted to a work bench or something similar with a belt and a couple of pulley can be used for lots of things; most commonly grinding/buffing/polishing wheels, I suppose.

Re: Bird wasn\'t joking!!

They could be run in tandem to increase the cubic feet of air stored in the system. This will allow a greater time on the tools with out the system cycling as much.

Soundguy,

Hmmm... considering what happened to you while on vacation, maybe my recommendation to Richard to take one may have been misguiding- wouldn't want to make MORE work for him /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would keep it all (what's still good). Put it aside and someday you'll be glad you did. G
