Beware of tall weeds when you mow or two things may happen:

1) You will almost run over a deer sleeping in the middle of the thickest stuff. I think I may have actually bumped her with FEL, but boy did my heart rate jump when she took off..

2) You may end having the sensation that your tractor is loosing power and going slower and slower. Which will cause you to second guess whether you have it fully in gear and if the 4x4 is actually working.. next you check for fluid leaks.. then you squat down and find out your front axle drive shaft is now so inter-twined with grass that it will barely turn any more..

The axle was covered from stem to stern with so much grass it was actually pressing on the underside of the tractor (4inches radius).. After about 1.5 hours I was finally able to finally cut, yank, pull away all the grass..

I have never had that problem until today.. i do remember in the past having the weeds wrap around the PTO shaft though..

I've never had weeds or deer cause a problem but the pheasants scared me once.

I keep the FEL pretty low when I bush hogging just in case.

If I'm in a field that I've never been in I'll try to walk it off just to make sure there are no real surprises, bottomless pit, tiger trap things like that. As far as the deer go I have had the dogs spook them out of the tall stuff and have them run right at the wife and I. Fortunately they have always zigged or zagged at the last second preventing the head on collision. That would probably hurt.:(

I was building my house years ago, when I was too tired to walk down the hill to use the porta potty. So I walk behind the house at dusk, (in the country and in the woods) whipped out the lil feller to do my business....when all the sudden I heard this noise and a deer jumped up made all kinds of racket, I don't know who made more noise, me or the deer as I was screaming too....... For a few seconds, I couldn't figure out what it was.....you know, it could have been and escaped bengal tiger or something (lol). But you know, that deer was in the woods saying....."can you believe the nerve of that guy, walking over here and peeing all over me like that....... don't mess with him." Then there is me in the house all winded, heart racing 100 MPH telling everyone a dang buffalo chased me........ I thought my buddies were going to puke on themselves from laughing so hard.......one even said I sounded ET or something similar.

I thought that's what living in the country was about, convenience. :D

As far a deer jumping up, I don't have grass tall enough to have that happen but I've got a friend that hays 160 acres in western Washington. A fawn will not move if mom is not around, makes him sick every time.

This story reminds me of unplugging my NH Haybine. Took 2 hours of cutting, pulling, sweating, swearing, cutting, pulling, twisting, etc.

I was cutting some alfalfa in my field this weekend and I was almost done with a small patch and I seen a opossum run out. I put the pedal tot he floor to try to catch up with it but it seemed like i went nowhere. The stuff was so thick the load match feature would only let me go so fast becasue I was bogging the tractor.

Luckily she did not run fast and I caught up with her and introduced her to the rotary cutter.... In the next 4 swipes I had 4 more half grown adults come out. This time I was smarter and pulled out of the row to chase them down.... Never thought i would have found them in there.....

I don't know about a deer that would stay in front of a tractor.. Our deer here in Central Texas have the gumption to get up and run before I even get close and that includes the fawn... I spent all day last Friday on the shredder (Bush Hog) and jumped up several fawn and never got close to them...

Hope them PETA bozos don't read this. They got on the Prez for killing a fly, they would really go into a spin for running over opossums with a bush hog. You need to paint 5 little opossum track on your cutter to signify your kills.
