Best way to move an old 8' Grain Drill 85 miles?

Many of those older implements did NOT use bearings on the wheel hubs just bushings.
Something to be aware of on a long highway tow even with the ground drives disconnected.

About 10 bolts and the hitch is off, easy trailer width that way.
By far the best way to get this grain drill moved 85 miles, I sold a 10' John Deere grain drill and we took the tongue off and I loaded it long ways on the buyers gooseneck trailer, piece of cake.

You could possibly stand it up on the back with the tongue straight up loaded long ways on a trailer or truck.

I would use a trailer.

When I moved my grain drill about a foot narrower we loaded it length ways on my trailer it only moved about 15 to 20 miles.

I took the tongue and wheels off my 9.5’ bush hog when I moved it around a 120 miles on my trailer.

I'd put the tailgate down and throw it into the pickup truck longwise with the hitch end festooned with ropes and pointing up like a mast Tie off all the shrouds and drive home.
There are 3 bolts(1/2''X1-1/4'') on each side that one can remove & then wheel hubs/tires will be the only parts that rotate when towing. Be sure to put marks on drive sprocket & wheel hub as they will only line up correctly in one way.

JD grain drills of that era utilize tapered roller brgs.

I think they will have a loader there.

Can you hang the right wheel off the front of the trailer and the left off the rear?

Tip it up on its rear if you can without damaging it so the hitch sticks up. That would give you side clearance if you need it.

If you can't tip it up without damaging it, take the hitch off.

Good luck with any rusty bolts. ;)
