Just mount them ,,so you don't have to
bust a knuckle or strain your back to hook up
or apart .

Needed a way to adjust the front blade angle on the tractor, made a simple bracket and welded two 45 degree fittings to it. Also used for the grapple these days.

Same concept, but crude, this time with shaft collars holding the couplers in place. Used to run a snowblower on a backhoe/loader.

Seems to be an easy and efficient method.
It's grapple off and snowplow on in 10 minutes and most of that time is my sore sorry old body trying to function.

so it looks like "sideways" is the way to go...which is what my dad wants to do. That way there is no additional tension on the lines as the bucket moves up and down. We saw one mounted "to the sky" at the dealer and it seems like in that position the hoses easily become too short when the bucket goes down...does that make sense?

Not if the hoses are long enough lol

I can see using only male couplers pointed up vertically, but I wouldn't install a female coupler pointing upward because it would trap debris.

Most couplers I see installed on skid steers are oriented horizontally, but sloping downwards I suppose so they can be flushed out.
I just put protective caps on mine.
And no, I don’t suggest female ends pointing upward, just male ends.
Trust me guys, I connect/disconnect hydraulic lines every day. Being able to use your body weight to push DOWNward on your connector is eternally easier than trying to push INward.

I mean all you have to do is angle them upward and try it, but if you like struggling, just point them horizontally and continue to start threads about buying clamps to install hydraulic lines 😂

Try it!

My OEM Massey third function kit mounts horizontally on the loader cross member. The connectors on the tractor side are both male and on the grapple they are both female.

All you have to do is switch 2 couplers to have female on attachment side and males on tractor side.
The only thing you lose is the minor convenience of being able to couple the hoses on the attachment side. I just use dirt caps.

When you push the female couplers on with your weight, you simply pull back on the female coupler with index finger and thumb and it pops right on. Its like a one-hand operation.

If the female end is on the tractor side, it’s a 2 hand operation that‘s more difficult.
