I still think the best is Diazanon.. now of course it is off the market cuz it causes Cancer. But doesn't that just mean it works REALLY well!

Chloradane (sp) works well for ants around the foundation.

Am I wrong? I think it was Dursban that the feds are phasing out, not Diazanon.

I know that Amdro works pretty well on fire ants. It is a little pricey - - around $8-9/lb. A sprinkle of the Amdro granules around your foundation should help. It is not recommended for use in vegetable gardens, however.

You can still get diazinon; just bought some last week, but I understand it is being phased out over a period of years; don't remember how long.

I'm in Washington state and Chlordane dissappeared from the shelves somewhwere in the late 70's. It then reappeared in the late 80's. I don't know what differences might have been. I have not purchased any in recent time, the stuff I have was probably purchased in the 80's time frame. I'm guessing you are probably right Chlordane is no longer available. Thanks for the update.

Tdog's right, Dursban is what was phazed out. I still have one bottle of concentrated left.(good stuff) You can still purchase diazon at your local Lowes, Home Depot and I also saw it at Wally World and Kmart.
