Bent a piston rod in my boom cylinder

Was digging a ditch today and while busting a root I bent my hydro cylinder rod... Never would have thought it would have happened.... Still don't even understand how.. Anyway, does anyone have a source for a replacement piston rod that is reasonable? Part # is woods 37878. Maybe a local shop can find one for me, just figured you guys may know. Thanks.

Sorry almost forgot to tell you what i have! I have a Kubota 4610 and a woods BH9000 backhoe.

Many hydraulic shops can make a replacement rod.

I am curious, would you describe what you were doing at the time? I am trying to imagine scenarios that would lead to that failure. Thanks and sorry, never fun to have a failure.

OUCH man that's not good if you did that kinda damage to to the rod make sure you check fel arm's to make sure there not broke or cracked. sorry i know it sucks you got work to do and can't do it.

In order to bend a shaft that is extended, you use another cyl/component and a mechanical advantage to apply more force.

What would happen if you bury the bucket 6 ft in the ground and tried to back the BH about 8 ft. the work port reliefs might go off, or the force might blow a hose or burst a fitting.

Mechanical forces are now involved by generating hyd force, and mechanical force. You might have a 10 to 1 relationship on the dipper to the boom.

Yes! Figuring out how it happened is the way to keep it from happening again. One would expect a factory system to be suitably strong and tailored by hydraulic limits to be self protecting. Could there have been mechanical interference involved - either in the instant case or a prior one that bowed the rod?
